Last month, disturbing news about the generation 992 Porsche 911 GT3 surfaced. At the time, an anonymous source close to Porsche Motorsport had claimed that the vehicle would abandon its naturally aspirated engine to the benefit of a more powerful twin-turbo six-cylinder.
However, a prototype of the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 has just been spied at Monza and sounds as if it is running on a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder, just like the current model.
It is impossible to know if this prototype is indeed intended for the next generation of GT3, the next GT3 RS or, possibly, another GT model. What we know for sure is that it's a 992 generation tester and it does not have a supercharged engine. This alone should enthuse enthusiasts.
Now, that makes us very excited.
The prototype test film is easy to choose among the other cars of the generation 992, not only by its engine rating, but also by its new aerodynamic parts, including a curiously shaped rear spoiler. The two central exhaust outlets features a GT3 model are also visible.
Beyond the use of a naturally aspirated engine, this vehicle has obviously been equipped with a new improved PDK transmission. Given the ramp up caused by Porsche abandoning a manual option for the 991 GT3 and re-introducing it for the 991.2, we expect a stick change to be offered with the 992 GT3.
If the new Porsche 911 GT3 actually uses a six-cylinder all-engine engine for production, the power will gradually increase from the 493 hp supplied by the current car.
It should also be noted that this video does not confirm that the finished car will use the same engine as this prototype. Porsche could still be undecided between a naturally aspirated mill and a turbo and could test both.
