Microsoft Announces October 2 Event for Surface Devices and More

Apple on September 12. Google on October 9. And now, Microsoft will hold its own special event between these two dates – we have just received an invitation to a Microsoft event on October 2 in New York.

The only clue that Microsoft gives us is the phrase "A moment of your time," but CNET understands that there will be Microsoft Surface hardware at the event – but not a Surface phone at this time. We hear that the event will be small but not entirely hardware-based, with updates to Microsoft software and services.

Microsoft journalist Mary Jo Foley on our partner site, ZDNet, has similarly heard that key revelations could be updated versions of Microsoft. Surface Pro and Laptop Surface with new processors and standardized USB-C ports for simultaneous charging and data, instead of the proprietary Surface Connect port (or Giant Horn Surface Connect to USB-C Dongle) they had until now.

That said, the sources of ZDNet had already reported that we should not expect to see Microsoft's Surface Pro 6 "heavily redesigned" until 2019, nor the folding portable device "Andromeda" Surface This looks like the second coming of Microsoft's Courier tablet concept.
