Microsoft enables keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One. Some Xbox testers will be able to test this new media in the coming weeks, and Microsoft is partnering with Razer so that Xbox One users can purchase hardware that taps into the company's Chroma light effects. Most wired and wireless USB keyboards and mice will work on Xbox One, and developers will need to support them in games.
"Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games," says Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management for Xbox. Each development team knows their titles best and we help them create the right experience for their games, at their convenience, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.
This fair keyboard and mouse experience over the controller will be essential for developers to gain access to the console world. PC users generally have a movement advantage over players with controllers in games such as first-person shooter games. Microsoft has worked closely with large and small studios on this new keyboard and mouse, and is now seeking feedback from Xbox testers to perfect them before they are available later this year.
Microsoft plans to share more about its partnership with Razer when it airs the company's Inside Xbox series on Nov. 10.
