The Microsoft Surface Unit, which can be folded in half, has come up well, this time via a document leaked by Microsoft
. two years, it seems that Microsoft has been tight on the development of a device with the code name Andromeda. It has been featured in patents, reports and rumors; has been mentioned in the operating systems many times; and has been reported that it will apparently incorporate a dual-screen design.
Microsoft Andromeda will create a new category of technology
It will also be available, according to The Verge, which has obtained an internal document from the company. Microsoft describes Andromeda as something that will establish a "new and disruptive" device category to influence the entire Surface portfolio, change its trajectory and redefine what is considered a PC and a mobile.
"This is a new form factor brings together new innovative hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience," says Microsoft in email
The device will have a foldable screen that fills the void of the hinge when it is fully open. Microsoft is also working on a stylus for Andromeda, which will serve as a pen for taking notes and other things.
Not surprisingly, Microsoft declined to comment on the latest report, says The Verge.
Six years ago, the company introduced Surface RT and Surface Pro as computing products that would create a whole new category to challenge our preconceptions about the differences between tablets and laptops. The Surface Pro has been a hit on this front, and some companies – even Apple to some extent – are clearly emulating Microsoft's strategy now. It seems that society wants people to treat Andromeda as the next big flaw in the way we use handhelds
Andromeda means for Microsoft
Alas, Andromeda, if it's real, is still in the process of development at Microsoft, and there is always the possibility that things change. After all, Microsoft seems to have canceled all plans for the long-awaited surface phone, so it's no stranger to dropping things willy-nilly. Still, it's a promising product from a company that relies on its operating system for laptops and desktops – a gesture like this signals Microsoft's invigorated investments for experiments mobile, and attempt to innovate and revolutionize the category
"This will blur the boundaries between mobile and stationary computing," says Microsoft.
