Microsoft sent invitations for an event on Oct. 2 in New York, exactly one week before Google hosts its hardware event in the same city. Hardware updates are expected, but we have reason to believe that a surface phone ad is highly unlikely.
The event itself is very vague. The only slogan is "A moment of your time", followed by the date and time (Oct. 2 at 4:00 pm, Eastern Time) and address (Studios Industria, 775 Washington Street).
The event will be similar to that of last year, when Microsoft unveiled the Surface Book 2. While the hardware was the main attraction, the company was keen to talk about how its Surface line fits into its broader vision of software and services. It will probably remain the same this year, so expect to talk about Windows 10, Microsoft Office and new outbreaks like Your Phone.
Now that I think about it, the word "time" in the slogan of the event could be an indication that we will have an update on the Windows Timeline. Or maybe it's just what Microsoft wants we think. A surface watch? OK I will stop.
While the Surface Go arrived just last month and an update of Surface Book could be too early, the Surface Studio was announced two years ago. Surface Pro and Surface Laptop can also use a refresh. Microsoft is generally launching new Surface devices in October. A new form factor is also possible, but it will not be a phone.
