Microsoft today released a new preview of Windows 10 with improvements to the connection options, SwiftKey, Input, Accessibility, Snip & Sketch, and Sticky Notes. This construction comes from branch 19H1, which will arrive in the first half of next year.

Windows 10 is developed as a service, which means that it regularly receives new features. Until now, Microsoft has released six major updates: November update, birthday update, creators update, fall creators update, update to day of April 2018 and update of October 2018.

The connection options have been simplified to help users choose the safest and fastest connection option according to their needs. The team believes that "by condensing each connection option into a list that explains the individual properties and the next stage of the configuration," users will feel more informed. But really, Microsoft just wants you to use Windows Hello and help it remove the password.

In the October 2018 update, Microsoft integrated SwiftKey's artificial intelligence technology with Windows 10. This release extends support for multiple languages: English (Canada), English (India), French (Canada), French (Belgium), French (Switzerland), Portuguese (Portugal), German (Switzerland) and Spanish (United States). These work with the touch keyboard, but the hardware keyboard text suggestions are now also supported with the languages above (Settings => Devices => Input => "Show text suggestions as you go that I type ").

Other enhancements include the addition of Indic Phonetic keyboards for Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Telugu, Kannada and more. malayalam. When you type using the English QWERTY keyboard, Windows 10 uses transliteration to suggest possible candidates for the Indicative text. You must add the indicative language in the settings and download the Phonetic indicative keyboards.

Regarding accessibility enhancements, the narrator will now alert you when you accidentally type with capital lock enabled. The setting is enabled by default, but you can disable it (press Ctrl + Win + N and the "Change when you receive Caps Lock lock when typing" box).

Microsoft has also released updates for Snip & Sketch (version 10.1809.2964.0) and Sticky Notes (version 3.1.32).

Snip & Sketch now lets you add a border to your screenshots, print directly from the application (including PDF printing), and specify backup options (confirming closing unsaved files are now supported). The old About folder has been replaced by a full settings page where you'll find the above option to add a border, an option for updates to your capture for an automatic copy to your clipboard, etc.

Sticky Notes now supports the dark mode of Windows 10. You can also set your color mode to suit your mood, regardless of your system settings. Synchronization is also faster now, although Microsoft has not specified how much.

Bug fixes and known issues

This 19H1 release includes the following general bug fixes and enhancements:

  • Functionality in which, if you right-click on a group name or a tiling folder in Start, you will now be able to unpin it. Currently, 50% of insiders will have this option.
  • Issue resolved: Task Manager settings did not persist after you closed and reopened the Task Manager on recent flights.
  • Issue solved: Only Vietnamese users could use new keypads based on telex and Vietnamese keys.
  • Issue resolved: When looking up with wrapping enabled in Notepad, the last word of the text could not be found.
  • Fixed a problem that could cause a blocking of settings while navigating to data usage.
  • Issue resolved: Starting the PIN removal process in the settings, then clicking Cancel when prompted for your password would crash the settings.
  • Issue resolved: twinui.dll was crashing on some devices in later versions after selecting a wireless view to project from the Connection drop-down list.
  • Issue resolved: The enhancements selected under Speaker Properties> Enhancements did not persist during the upgrade.
  • Fixed a problem resulting in the reduction of FLAC metadata in the file explorer and other locations.
  • The "Forget" option for Wi-Fi profiles is now available to non-admin users.
  • Ctrl + mouse wheel scroll to zoom is now supported in Command Prompt, PowerShell and WSL.
  • When you use a dark theme (Settings> Customization> Colors), your scroll bars in Command Prompt, PowerShell, and WSL also become dark.
  • Fixed a problem with the console that could cause graphics issues in the VS Code's built-in terminal.
  • Options for changing the default application mode and enabling / disabling transparency have been placed at the top of the color settings, making it easier to find.

Today's update removes the Windows 10 build number for the 19H1 branch of 18267 (made available to testers on Oct. 24) to build 18267.

This version has nine known issues:

  • The task view does not display the + button under New Desktop after creating 2 virtual desktops.
  • Some users will notice that the status of the update alternates between the preparations, the download and the installation. This is often accompanied by an error 0x8024200d caused by a failure to download the express package.
  • If you have a large number of OTF fonts, or OTF fonts that support the East Asian extended character set, you may encounter unexpectedly unexpected text on the system. If you encounter this problem, you can solve the problem by navigating to the Fonts folder (c: windows fonts).
  • Open PDF files in Microsoft Edge may not display correctly (small instead of using all the space).
  • A competitive situation resulting in blue screens could occur if your PC is configured for dual boot. If you are concerned, the solution is to disable dual boot.
  • The colors of the hyperlinks must be refined in dark mode in Sticky Notes if Insights is enabled.
  • The settings page crashes after changing the password of the account. We recommend using the CTRL + ALT + DELETE method to change the password.
  • WSL will not work on this version. If you want WSL to work, you can go back to version 18267.
  • If you install one of the recent versions of the fast ring and go to the slow ring, the optional content such as developer mode activation will fail. You will need to stay in the Quick Ring to add / install / activate optional content. Indeed, the optional content installs only on approved versions for specific rings.

As always, do not install this on your production machine.
