Microsoft: We have developed buggy fixes in Outlook 2010 after a crash

Microsoft removed two updates for Outlook 2010 released on November 6, after reporting that the application was causing the application to hang on startup.

The series of sloppy updates from Microsoft is continuing, this time affecting users of its Outlook 2010 productivity suite.

The company has made available KB4461522 and KB2863821 and notes on their respective support pages that after installing these applications, users "may experience failures in Microsoft Access or other applications".

Both updates were non-security fixes and affected Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 2. The updates were extracted on November 15.

However, Microsoft has also released an alert on security update KB4461529, again, because it causes Outlook to hang.

"After updating Outlook 2010 with public update KB 4461529 of November 2018, Outlook hangs or quits suddenly at startup, the problem only affects 64-bit installations of Outlook 2010," warns Microsoft. .

This hotfix, released last November, fixes four remote code execution flaws that can be exploited by email or a malicious Web site.

Although this also causes Outlook to crash because it resolves security issues that Microsoft believes may be exploited, users should not remove the security update.

Until there is a solution, Microsoft suggests that users try Outlook Web Access instead.

"Microsoft is investigating the problem and we will update this page as more information becomes available, so to work around the problem, you can try to use Outlook Web Access," the document says.

After having finally reissued the Windows 10 October 2018 update, after removing the data-destructive bug, Microsoft acknowledged last week that the version in question had a known bug in the mapped drives.
