Mojang is about to bring us a brand new Minecraft adventure inspired by classic dungeon robots. Play alone or with three of your friends, but we'll have to wait until next year to get your hands on it.
The Minecraft call continues without any sign of slowing down, but Microsoft does not want to take a chance with a property that costs billions. So, what better way to develop the allure of Minecraft than by creating a brand new game bearing its name!
On Saturday, Microsoft announced that a small team of developer Mojang was working on a so-called "passion project" as they shared a common interest in dungeon crawl games. This project of passion has turned into a real project with the final result a new game located in the world of Minecraft called Minecraft: Dungeons.
This new Minecraft-themed dungeon can be played alone or with up to three friends. The game forces you to weave your way through a wide range of dungeons, in the form of canyons, swamps, mines and many other environments that I imagine as this game continues to develop.
Mojang ensures that the progression allows players to continually discover new weapons and new items, as well as to fight "a ruthless swarm of new and wicked monsters". The ultimate goal is to save the villagers and defeat the "wicked Arch-Illager". Everything in this game is new, including environments, monsters and gameplay, so a very different Minecraft experience.
Any new game with the name Minecraft will certainly be popular from the first day, but unfortunately, Microsoft and Mojang make us wait to play Minecraft: Dungeons. The release date has not been confirmed beyond 2019 and will only be initially available on PC.
The video above shows a bit of the game, but you can be sure that many more details will be revealed during the launch phase. As that is the norm now, expect livestream sessions, Q & A sessions with developers, and probably even a few special editions from the game's pre-order launch day.
