Motorola announced today its intention to bring the Motorola One to the United States a few months after the international launch of the Android One phone. It will be available exclusively from Best Buy for $ 399; you can order it online (in black) from 9 November or find it in stores (in white) from 11 November. The One is sold as a device unlocked by GSM. It will work on AT & T and T-Mobile, but not with Verizon or Sprint.
The Motorola One has a 5.9-inch screen (720×1520) with a notch and chin big enough for Moto to affix its logo. The rest of the data sheet is also halfway: you get a Qualcomm 625 processor, a 64GB storage (with microSD), 4GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and an 8 megapixel selfie camera. Its battery is 3000 mAh and the phone has a nano coating that protects it from splashing and rain. And there is a headphone jack! No wireless charging at this price, however.
The fact that Motorola One runs on Android One means that buyers are assured of having a stable and consistent route for updates. Motorola indicates that the device, which runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, will be updated for Android 9 Pie and possibly for Android Q. What is just as important, is that the phone's security updates are guaranteed for three years. Motorola's software experience is already very close to that of Android, and some of the company's signature adjustments and shortcuts are also included in the One.
Unfortunately, the announcement made by Motorola today makes no mention of the biggest Motorola One Power coming to the United States. The One Power has a 6.2-inch screen, a slightly more powerful Snapdragon chip, improved cameras and a much larger battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh. It also replaces the rear glass with metal. For the moment, this one remains exclusive to India.
At $ 399, the main competitor of Motorola One is … other Motorola phones.
