NES emulator already hacked to run unofficial games

In a series of tweets, KapuccinoHeck explained that the Switch Online application that handles official NES games treats them as simple .nes files, with a database file that lists in plain text all compatible NES games and can be manipulated to add some. In other words, if the 20 classic NES games provided with Nintendo Switch Online do not float on your boat, it's not impossible to add your favorites, as has shown a video of KapuccinoHeck, where they were uploaded. Kirby's Adventure.

That said, all this is only applicable to pirate Switches. Hacking a Switch is a complicated job that takes time and could see your account banned by Nintendo. This is not really advisable. However, KapuccinoHeck mentioned that the NES application on the switch appears to be a recreated port of the NES emulator running on the NES Classic. As such, it might not be too long until we see tools available to help users increase their NES library on the switch emulator in a safer and simpler way.
