The GT-R holds a lot of superlatives. So much so, that we have made a list of better nicknames, because the monicker Godzilla will not be enough for his size. However, Nissan's design director, Alfonso Albaisa, has confirmed that the company is ready to push the construction of the fastest new generation GT-R in the world.
In an exclusive interview with Coach at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the head of design said that the next GT-R will not only be based on the GT -R50 Italian is present at the climb. It will be a different car and must be "his own special car". He also said that he had to keep a different visual identity than cars in his class. In short, it will be unique.
With that, the Nissan 2020 Vision concept will not be too far-fetched to become the basis of its design. These are strong and aggressive clues that would fit the superlative claim, and frankly, we could not be more excited with his production model. But do not wait too much for your hopes. Albaisa said that he is constantly reviewing the sketches for the next generation GT-R. He and his team are not yet doing "serious work" until the engine and the new platform have been finalized.
He also pointed out that the challenge so far is with the engineers. Once the engineers have finished with the technical specifications, it is at that moment that their work will begin. He added that electrification may be part of the new powertrain, but this is not yet confirmed. At this point, Albaisa's strong belief is with the future dominance of the GT-R on the race track, whether electrified or not.
