If we refer to another week of Cupertino news, this week's Apple Loop includes the launch of the iPad Pro and MacBook Air, the secrets of the iPhone XR, Apple's latest battery accelerator , confirmation of its new selfie mode, updates for MacOS and iOS. , the update of watchOS against Apple Watch, and the curious case of helium errors of your iPhone.
Apple Loop is here to remind you of some of the many discussions that have been taking place around Apple over the past seven days (and you can read my weekly summary of Android news on Forbes).
The iPad Pro … is … a … computer!
The launch of Apple in October confirmed that the goal of Cupertino was to put computing on tablet (in the iPad Pro) before desktop computing (on the MacBook Air), the greatest number of times going back to the new iOS tablets. Jason Snell is happy to confirm that he is a big fan of the iPad Pro lineup, but does the updated version of Pro (the Pro X?) Interest him?
This is the X factor of the iPhone, applied to the iPad. The main button has disappeared, replaced by a TrueDepth camera system that allows face identification to work from any orientation. It's amazing and impressive to see the iPad unlock with Face ID when you hold it upside down. The camera can still see your face from there? Apparently yes.
But the big problem, and the feature that confirms that Apple focuses more on the iPad than on the Mac, is the removal of the Lightning port for USB-C. It's a bold statement, but can the closed nature of iOS survive?
But plug in a hard drive or flash drive and you will not be able to see the files in the Files application. Connect a USB webcam and I guess nothing happens? There is still a lot to do here. On a standard computer, we expect what happens when we connect a USB device. iOS has holes. Perhaps the existence of USB technology on iPad will finally prompt Apple to prioritize better support for USB devices in future versions of iOS.
More to six colors.
New Macs are coming, but old profitable favorites remain
Finally, the MacBook Air has been updated. Go beyond the title and you'll find that Apple still sells the original MacBook Air design at $ 999. What has been announced is actually a MacBook Pro Air, which is located above the MacBook, but below the MacBook Pro wallet. It's an incredibly narrow space in which to insert the laptop. Nick Statt has more:
It features a Retina Display, 50% thinner glasses similar in design to the standard MacBook and upgraded components. Its 13.3-inch screen extends to the edge of the case, two USB-C ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It also weighs only 2.75 pounds, which is lighter than the previous MacBook Air model that came in at 2.96 pounds.
Read more at The Verge. The Mac Mini, Apple's standalone computer, also supplied with the keyboard, mouse and monitor, is also updated. Brian Heater reports:
The new device incorporates the latest generation of six-core processors, up to 64GB of RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage. At the back of the device, you'll find four Thunderbolt 3 ports, an HDMI and a USB-A. Like the new Air, the updated Mini is made of 100% recycled aluminum … That said, the price of the Mini is still comparable to that of an entry-level device. The low-end version has 8GB of RAM and starts at $ 799. Pre-orders for the tiny office start today and will be available from November 7th.

The secrets of the iPhone XR unveiled
Meanwhile, the iFixit team has been working to open the iPhone XR to find out what's inside the new handset … and the answer seems to be "the iPhone 9", or at least the iPhone 8 design with the XS chipset:
A look under the hood revealed design features that recall both the iPhone 8 (rectangular battery, single layer card) and X (square logic board, Face ID), making it the "iPhone 9" spiritual.
But the XR does not have only delays: it has the latest silicon and contains completely new features for iPhones. We found Apple's very first modular SIM card reader, possibly there to help them in their new multi-SIM plans.

Apple is preparing to limit iPhone handsets from last year
The performance management feature of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and the iPhone X is part of the iOS update. This self-regulating feature, added to older iPhone models, helps reduce the load required by older ones to reduce performance and speed.
The theory behind the limitation is relatively valid. As batteries age, chemistry changes and they can no longer provide the same power. Even with today's technology, as batteries age, they weaken. Put too much charge on a battery and there comes a time when it does not work. But the older the battery, the lower the threshold before the battery can simply be delivered. In the case of the iPhone, this means that the handset will turn off to avoid damaging the electronic components.
The problem is not that the feature is present, it is that once again, Apple makes decisions and does not communicate them clearly to its users. This will have a noticeable impact on the iPhone 2017 handset and users may not understand why their smartphone is slowing down. I've looked at the problems during the week:
But for the vast majority of users, the iOS update will be applied without reading the notes on the Apple website. The update will be considered "the right thing to do" with regard to security patches and software changes, and many will see their iPhone slow down. and "grow old" and not understand why.
For a company that pretends to be the user, Apple has the habit of concealing decisions made in situ, instead of having clear and easy-to-understand conversations with its customers.

iOS 12.1 fixes the filter Beauty-gate Selfie
In addition to the new iPad and Mac, Apple has released an update for iOS, which goes to version 12.1. This fixes a number of embarrassing bugs of iOS 12.0 and 12.0.1, as well as the addition of three main features: dual SIM card support, camera depth control and FaceTime group (plus an almost mandatory extension of supported emoji). Amit Chowdhry takes a closer look, including those who are the most important emoji !:
More than 70 new emoji are added to iPhones and iPads equipped with iOS 12.1. This includes characters with red, gray, curly or bald hair. There are also new emotional smileys and emoji representing foods like mango, cupcake, leafy vegetables and a bagel. And there are new emoji representing sports like lacrosse and softball. In addition, there are new animal emoji such as a raccoon, a llama, a kangaroo, a mosquito, a lobster and a swan. For international users, there are new emoji for the moon cake, a red gift envelope and a Nazar amulet. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate emoticons for luggage, hiking shoes and a compass.
This will also remove the beauty filter that Apple has quietly added to selfies. Gordon Kelly has more details:
There is also a hidden highlight: the end of the so-called BeautyGate. Apple has quietly admitted its selfie camera problem embellishing last week and, with iOS 12.1, users no longer feel that they are plastic. It remains to be seen if the option to reactivate this mode of false beauty will be proposed (some are the same).

The MacOS update follows the iOS path
The new Mac hardware was accompanied by a punctual MacOS mojave output. Now at 10:14 am, the update brings the new iOS FaceTime feature to the desktop, as well as the new iOS emoji. Juli Clover reports:
macOS Mojave 10.14.1 brings over 70 new emoji characters that are also available in iOS 12.1 and watchOS 5.1. There are new options for red hair, curly hair, no hair, and gray hair, as well as characters depicting superheroes, cold face, festive face, pleading face and face with a heart.
There are a number of new animals and food products such as kangaroo, parrot, lobster, mango, lettuce and cupcake. Changes have also been made to some existing emoji. The emoji of the iPhone, for example, has been updated to look like the iPhone X without framing or home button.

Update of WatchOS Bricking Apple Watches
For a brief moment, Apple Watch users also benefited from a software update, with WatchOS upgrading to 5.1. Unfortunately, the update knocks Apple watches around the world and no solution can be implemented by the user or in an Apple Store. Apple customers are naturally annoyed by this turn of events and questions the skills of Apple. Leo Kelion reports:
Belfast's Chris Ball said that Apple's support had sent him a message saying, "I know it's hard to be without Watch, but that's the only service method available for Watch. Even if you visited an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, we would need to send the watch to a service center. "
He expressed his frustration that after recently spending £ 750 for this device, he would otherwise stay for days.
"My Apple Watch is now completely useless, stuck on the Apple logo screen … so I have to wait, because of a problem with the Apple software, which means I do not have a watch. I would like to question their quality assurance on software. "

And finally…
A helium leak is blocking your iPhone. It may not be April 1st, but at first glance, the idea that a Helium leak could break your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, while Android devices continue to run crazy. . But once you take a closer look, everything becomes explicable. Kyle Wiens tells the story for iFixit:
A failing oscillator would correspond to Erik's symptoms, which he reproduced in an experiment. "I placed an iPhone 8 Plus in a sealed bag and filled it with helium. This was not incredibly realistic, as the original iPhones would have been exposed to a much lower concentration, but it still supports the idea that helium can disable the device. In the video, I leave the screen on and use a stopwatch for the duration of the test. About 8 minutes and 20 seconds later, the phone hangs. Nothing crazy is really happening. The clock stops, nothing else. The screen remained on.
I was able to repeat his experience in our laboratory. My iPhone 8 lasted about four minutes in a helium atmosphere before going out completely.
