New Microsoft Surface Pro statistics

Microsoft has unveiled the latest version of its new handset tablet / laptop gadget, the Surface Pro 6, which is expected to face again Apple's premium tablet, the iPad Pro.

The Surface Pro range has some of the best Microsoft hardware ever produced and the Surface Pro 6 is no exception. You could say that it's an incremental upgrade, but Surface 6 is 67% more powerful than its predecessor and Microsoft has refreshed its display with the highest contrast ratio of all Surface gadgets.

Microsoft claims to have managed to optimize its cooling system to support its new 8th generation Intel quad-core processors, a first in thin-form factor machines for tablets. And unlike the Surface Pro 5, which was only available in silver, the Surface Pro 6 is also available in a beautiful matte black finish.

The entry point of the Surface Pro 6 has also dropped compared to the Surface Pro 5. The Surface Pro 6 with Core i5 will start at $ 899 and represents the launch of Surface Pro at the lowest price ever.

The Surface Pro 6 is really impressive compared to its Surface Pro 5 brother, but how does it compare to the current iPads? Let's go get some.

Note: Keep in mind that the iPad pros will probably have a refresh soon. Better wait for the next updates before splurge on these old models. As usual, when the new iPad Pro models will be marketed, older models could also benefit from a price reduction.

Form factor

The Surface Pro and iPad Pro lines can collide in many ways, but they also have many differences.

On the one hand, the Surface Pro range is mainly marketed as a hybrid tablet for laptops and comes with its own built-in stand. Associated with a Surface keyboard (sold separately), the Pro becomes a complete Windows 10 laptop. The iPad Pro, with its iOS operating system, is still primarily a mobile tablet although you can use holsters and cases if you want to keep it in place.

The Surface Pro, with its magnesium construction, is slightly heavier than the iPad Pro, built in aluminum. Surface Pro is also thicker than iPad Pro. However, Microsoft has stayed with a 3: 2 aspect ratio more square, easier to use with one hand, regardless of the orientation, than the 4: 3 display of the iPad Pro.

Fun fact: 300,000 first-generation iPads were sold on the day of its launch.

Performance

Although the iPad Pro is available in two sizes, it is equipped with the same processor, the A10x Fusion. The Surface Pro 6 is equipped with Intel Core 8 and Core i5 or i7 8th generation chips, more efficient than their predecessors. You can not really compare these two chips directly, because Apple's mobile chips are still designed and optimized for their mobile operating system, iOS.

On the side of the RAM, the Surface Pro 6 can be equipped with 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM while the iPad Pro 10 inches has 2 GB and the 12.9 inches has 4 GB. Again, the iPad Pro are optimized for mobile phones, while Surface Pro has a complete Windows 10 operating system that runs it. You can not compare the two experiments directly based on the amount of RAM.

So with the more consistent specs of the iPad Pro, you only need to worry about the storage capacity. With the Surface Pro, the higher the costs, the better the performance.

On the hardware side, both tablets support their own stylus, iPad Pro pen and Surface Surface stylus, and basically have the same handwriting and drawing features.

Operating system

With its iOS operating system, the iPad Pro is strictly a mobile device and its applications and interface are a reflection of it. The opposite is true with the Surface Pro 6 – with Windows 10, the laptop first, the second tablet. As a result, Surface Pro 6 can run full desktop applications side-by-side with tablet-based Windows 10 applications. Because Windows 10 powers the Surface Pro 6, it also offers better multitasking and file management features.
