What is this new Pokemon in Pokemon Go? Is this a bug?

A strange new Pokemon has been reported in Pokemon Go, and players do not know if it's a problem, the Beldum they heard about in a leak, a shiny Ditto, or just a placeholder for the end of the community day in some regions. it has never been changed. It is just tagged with question marks ("???") and no one is sure of what to think. Niantic has not yet given an official answer to what is happening. Here is what has been reported up to here by the players and what we know. If you have also seen this strange new Pokémon, leave a comment at the end of this story and tell us what you experienced.

The new Pokemon appeared after the community day in the APAC region and it was everywhere

The new Pokémon was reported by APAC trainers right after the three-hour window of the community day, but the United States has also begun to report it. The Silph Road tweeted about the Pokemon as if it was really a new Pokémon and not a problem. But it is not clear at this stage if this is the case.

Trainers from regions where new Pokémon emerged say it's all over. The Redditor _Corvus_ was one of the first to note it on the subreddit of The Silph Road, sharing the following picture:

Unfortunately, some people report that this strange problem has already disappeared, and the strange new Pokemon has stopped appearing about 30 minutes after the end of the event. We do not know if this is confirmed in all countries, however, other people report that they still see it, but not as often as in the beginning.

It looks a little like the Beldum who fled, but does not act like a regular Pokémon

There is some resemblance to the Beldum that has been leaked.

This is not an exact match, but a bit too similar to ignore.

Beldum is a Steel / Psychic Pokémon that evolves into Metang, which then evolves into Metagross. It's a robotic Pokémon with a long body and claws coming out of its back and a big red eye at its center. Some trainers indicated that it looked like a red thread coming out of the bottom of this new Pokémon. And it seems to have an eye in its center.

However, the strange new Pokémon turns into an idem in most cases, but sometimes also a Chikorita after it has been caught. So, it did not act as if we were expecting a new Pokémon to behave.

(Read Heavy's story about Beldum's escape here to see what we're talking about.)

The trainers said they saw him in several countries and said they

Trainers reported seeing Pokemon in areas including:

  • Mexico (Robert Medino is our first sighting of Mexico and has been transformed into Ditto.)

If the Continental United States reports are accurate, this could be a problem that extends beyond Community Day, but it is not yet clear.

Here is a video showing a person catching the Pokémon, which is simply labeled "???", then shows the Pokémon labeled as a Chikorita after it has been caught. Click here to see it. You can watch another video here.

This tweet also shows the strange Pokémon:

Redditor Charizardmain also shared this YouTube video when he caught the cute Pokemon:

Here's another look at the Pokemon:

Theories abound, from a bug to a brilliant idem and more

Theories about this strange new Pokémon. Some say they thought it was a new type of Unown at first, but that's not the case. Others wondered if it was supposed to be a brilliant Idem. And others still think it's just a bug.

Some trainers say that this Pokemon only turns into Chikorita if you shine – check it out before it changes. They say it will become Ditto unless you use a different Pokémon before catching it, in which case it will become that Pokémon. (Which, since being created after the Community Day, is a Chikorita for many trainers.) This has not yet been confirmed.

Another theory is that this is a bug of the Chikorita event. Trainers like u / Comquack are wondering if there were just Chikorita spawning spaces on Community Day, and this is a placeholder that took over when these spawners don have not been eliminated.

Meanwhile, The Silph Road reported that the audio file of this new Pokémon matches that of Kecleon:

Did you catch this strange new Pokémon? What was your experience? At this point, we do not know if this is a strange problem or a new legitimate Pokémon. But as some people report that they no longer appear, it could just be a bug. We could get more clues if this happens after the end of the community day in other regions. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

This is a story in development.
