There’s nothing wrong with a three-dimensional Mario game, but for many fans there’s something special about the Italian plumber’s side-scrolling outings. And although New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe isn’t an entirely new game, its Nintendo Switch release on January 11, 2019 will be the first time many fans will have the chance to play it.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe finds Mario and Luigi teaming up with new characters like Toadette and Nabbit to run and jump through all 164 levels from the original Wii U game and its expansion, New Super Luigi Bros. U. As was the case in the original version, the Luigi expansion’s levels are significantly more challenging than what you’ll find in the core game and are geared toward experience players. That said, Nintendo promises Toadette and Nabbit have abilities geared toward helping new players learn the ropes.
The game supports up to four players at the same time, and two players can play using one set of Joy-Con controllers. In three additional modes–Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle–players can use their Mii character. You can find additional information in our New Super Mario Bros. U review of the original Wii U versoin.
As this is a re-release, Nintendo seems to be keeping the launch fairly low-key and straightforward. No special editions or pre-order bonuses are available at any retailer, though we’ll update this if they appear. Regardless, if you’re ready to secure your copy of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe right now, you can pre-order from the links below.
