New turbo engine and new styling mark changes to 2019 Jeep Renegade

We told you about the 2019 Jeep Renegade that meets European specifications in June, but today we have a glimpse of what the United States can expect from the new crossover. A novelty for 2019 is the 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 177 horsepower and 200 pounds of torque. This means that the boosted 1.3 liter is actually more powerful than the outgoing 1.4 liter 160 horsepower. This engine will be standard on the Limited and Trailhawk models, but optional on the Sport and Latitude models – these less expensive versions will benefit from the naturally aspirated four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine. If you choose the 1.3 liter, it will also come with stop-start technology. Regardless of the engine choice, you will get a nine-speed automatic transmission as the existing six-speed manual transmission is MIA for 2019.

As a reminder of what we have learned before, the Italian-built Jeep crossover features new front and rear fairings and new wheel designs to differentiate it from 2018. You can even get 19-inch wheels on the Latitude and Limited. An optional LED full lighting package includes LED headlights, daytime running lights, fog lights and taillights. Driver assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, parallel / perpendicular parking assist and front parking sensors, are also available as options.

There is still no picture of the new colors, but you can get slate blue, Sting gray and Bikini paint on your Renegade … interesting name choice for the last one. Of course, the Renegade will be available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the Trailhawk being the most capable off-road pack. Jeep has not released official fuel economy figures for the 1.3-liter turbo, but it says the smaller engine and active calender shutters should allow an improvement over 2018. Prices and availability remain a mystery, but we do not think it will be much longer until this information is available.
