Nintendo has patented a playable Game Boy case inducing nostalgia

In 2016, Nintendo started to develop games designed specifically to be played on smartphones. Titles like Super Mario Run and Animal crossing: pocket camp We brought some of the most adorable characters in the world into our pockets without the tactical buttons or plastic devices we knew and loved. This could change, however, as Nintendo has filed a patent application that would give your smartphone the look and feel of a Game Boy.

The patent application was filed this spring and describes a case that would fold on a smartphone, highlighting the classic rectangular design of the Game Boy. A square cut-out in the case allows the phone to act as a screen for the pseudo-handheld computer, and the buttons below it would be interactive and able to transmit the input to the touch screen. This is something that other third-party companies have tried to do before – with varying degrees of success.

Patents do not always lead to products, but Nintendo records a strong performance from its nostalgic versions. The NES Classic was sold immediately after its release in 2016, and its enthusiasm continued with its re-release this summer, selling more systems than the PS4, Xbox One and Switch in June. It would not be surprising if the company combines its classic games and devices with a new box and brings them to the mobile.

And they should. I want to play desperately Kirby's Dream Land on my phone without having to use emulators.
