Nintendo has announced that it sold 3.19 million Switch consoles last quarter, meaning it's at 5.07 million units for the financial year so far and 22.86 million since its launch in March 2017. That's right, folks, the Switch has now outsold the GameCube's 21.74 million total more Wii U.
The home / portable hybrid console has been a big success, but it's still going strong. March 31st, which remains unchanged. The most important, and last year Nintendo "only" moved 7.23 million units. The company will be able to meet its goals, given that the quarter following the holidays is traditionally very slow.
If you had to think of any franchises that could spark a major sales rush, though, Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. it would be a good idea to start this switch. It's also worth pointing out that the sales are slightly higher, but the system was still supply-constrained this time last year.
Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation business continues to grow. The company just announced that it's shipped over 86 million PS4 consoles worldwide; for comparison, the last figure given for the PS3 was 80 million back in 2013, while the original PlayStation managed around 102 million.
Operating profit for Sony's game division is up over 100 percent on the same six-month period, with more than 240 percent higher revenue, and the company has more than 17.5 million units. Could the PS4 become the best-selling PlayStation since the PS2?
