Following the announcement that Nintendo could manufacture a Game Boy Classic console, it also appears that the company was designed to play Game Boy games on a smartphone.
In a patent filing dating back to March this year, Nintendo is clearly thinking of creating a Game Boy box in which you can insert your smartphone and on which you can probably play Game Boy games (see above).
However, there are already similar cases on the market and, like these peripherals, the case buttons also seem to have an effect on the touch screen below, at least according to this patent.
My only concern is that there are a large number of types of smartphones available. I do not know how much the support of these different devices will be complete.
Personally, the Game Boy is my favorite game console of all time, so that kind of thing really hits me in nostalgia. However, what makes the Game Boy games so interesting is not only their concentration in game design, primarily by technological necessity, but also the accuracy of their controls.
This is why traditional game controllers still have their importance because touch screens on smartphones are still not up to scratch. So, while this Game Boy patent is certainly something rather curious, my concern is whether the controls will be as good as those of the original Game Boy.
Another interesting point about this Game Boy shell is that it is not limited to smartphones but "to other electronic equipment, such as tablet terminals with no phone function." This means that iPads and the like could even be an option, albeit in a somewhat comical sense. Potentially, even the switch could be a possibility here too.
As it is only a patent, it is not known when or even if this Game Boy case will be published. However, I suppose that the success of the Game Boy Classic will have an impact on one or the other of the things.
