Paying for Nintendo Switch Online does more than allow you to play online. The subscription also offers some exclusive benefits, including free access to classic NES games. The online service will be launched with 20 different NES titles and nine more will be added by the end of 2018.

Most of Nintendo's biggest franchises have started on NES and many of these games will be launched with Switch Online. Pay for Nintendo's online subscription gives you access to games like Mario Bros., Zelda's The Legend, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. Pro Wrestling and Baseball. The list of 20 games launched with Switch Online is available on the Nintendo website. We have also described them below.

Change launch titles online

After the launch of Switch Online, Nintendo has regular updates to add other NES games to the service. In October 2018, the NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon's Key and Super Dodge Ball will be added. Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack and TwinBee will arrive at Switch in November 2018. Finally, in December 2018, Nintendo will add Adventures of Lolo, Ninja Gaiden and Wario's Woods.

To help capture the reading experience of these classic titles, Nintendo launches Joy-Cons, exclusive to Switch Online members, who have the form of NES controllers. Each box comes with two controllers because each NES title will support two-player cooperatives. In some games where two characters controlled by the player do not make sense, you can switch between controlling the game or the second player can use a hand-shaped slider to indicate clues and applaud some actions. NES titles will also support Switch Online voice chat via the Nintendo smartphone app if you and your partner are not in the same room.

Switch Online also offers a cloud backup feature, but only for certain games. Another caveat is that when you stop paying for Switch Online, all your cloud backups will be deleted.

Switch Online launches in America on September 18th and in the UK on September 19th. Subscriptions can be purchased for increments of 1, 3 and 12 months, respectively for € 4.50, € 3.50, € 8 / € 7 and € 20 / € 18.
