Nintendo will not release an N64 Classic so soon

Talk to KotakuFils-Aime said the first two classic series were designed to bridge the gap between the end of the Wii U and the arrival of the Switch. "This is the strategic reason why we launched the NES Classic system," he explained.

Although Fils-Aime did not totally exclude the N64 Classic, he added that Nintendo would rather turn to retro heads by developing the content of its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. But he would not say if the platform would extend beyond its current list of NES titles to include SNES games and beyond.

As to why Nintendo will not be releasing an N64 classic soon, it may be harder to sell and harder to replicate. As old Engadget-In David Lumb, the skimpy console on whole genres and its controller is an "aesthetic aberration". Nintendo has slavishly recreated the NES and SNES for its classic editions, which means that the obsolete controller upgrade (with its misplaced analog stick and deadweight d-pad) is out of the question.

On a positive note, nostalgic players can console themselves knowing that NES and SNES Classic consoles are currently available for purchase (after being sold quickly in the past). The PlayStation Classic is also scheduled for next month and a Sega Genesis Mini is about to arrive (not to mention the many classic games that Sega promises for the Switch under its Sega Ages banner).
