Nissan and Italdesign unveil the GT-R50 prototype

To celebrate the golden jubilee of the Nissan GT-R with the famous Italdesign design house, the two brands team up to redesign the GT-R Nismo

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT-R and Italdesign, Nissan unveiled a prototype GT-R that was created in collaboration with the design house.

Called GT-R50, this unique collaboration is based on the GT-R Nismo. The development, engineering and construction of the car were the work of Italdesign, while the design itself was a project of the design centers of Nissan and San Diego.

No exterior appearance of the car was spared. lowered by 54mm. The prototype is longer, wider and lower than the Nismo on which it is based. Golden highlights have been used throughout the exterior, which seems to have undergone a dramatic restyle. Meanwhile, the car's original features have been exaggerated and aerodynamically improved, including its huge rear adjustable spoiler.

In terms of performance, the 3.8-liter V6 engine now produces 720hp and 780Nm of torque. and 652Nm of the "regular" GT-R Nismo. Its performance has been strengthened, given the special prototype status of the car. It has also been equipped with standard turbochargers, a larger intercooler system, adjustable dampers, crankshafts, pistons, bearings and reinforced rods. Its intake and exhaust systems have been tweaked to get the 120 horsepower boost from Nismo's numbers.

"How many times do you need to ask," What if we had created a limitless GT-R, "and then built it?" Said Nissan boss Alfonso Albaisa. "It's a rare window in time when two great moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the world of automotive and 50 years of excitement generating Nissan across our iconic GT -R. To celebrate this convergence, Nissan and Italdesign have created this customized GT-R to mark 50 years of leadership in engineering.

The Japanese automaker quickly clarified that the car was not related to the next generation GT-R) but would not respond when asked if Italdesign would be involved in the development of the next GT-R. The next-generation GT-R is expected to have a high-performance hybrid powertrain and retain its four-wheel drive.
