A Mercedes-Benz Vans official said there was "no demand" or "exaggerated demand" for an AMG badged version of the X-Class double cabin bakkie.
Speaking to GoAuto, Blake Vincent, director of public relations and communications of the German brand in Australia, said that there was currently "no plans" to build a Mercedes-AMG X-Class as it does not exist. there is no demand.
"There has been no demand for AMG; there has been V6 investigation, but no specific and exaggerated demand around an AMG variant," Vincent told the Australian publication.
"AMG is definitely not on the table for X-Class at the moment; there are no plans for AMG. We have also been very comfortable with the range we have to come, knowing that we have the next V6, for the two-cabin segment, the power we provide, the ride quality, the exterior design of the X-Class with the V6, we really think it's a strong proposition such as it is.
"So we have not cried for an AMG variant or something like that.We are very comfortable with the range we have.It's about integrating the range. X-Class on the market now. "
Vincent also pointed out that the Stuttgart-based automaker did not intend to offer an AMG style body kit for the Navara-based bakkie (despite tuners like Brabus and Prior Design having already unveiled theirs).
"Right now, there's no plan for that, if the demand is changing and we're really seeing that it's the kind of package we need for X-Class and what it's there is volume to justify it, so we can do it, but for the moment it does not need it ".
