Nvidia launched its current generation of GeForce game GPUs more than two years ago, and we could just see the next generation, called the GeForce GTX 11 Series, in August. While Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, said that the next GeForce GPUs would be "very far from here", all signs announce next month for the launch of the GeForce GTX 1180. Nvidia was to present at the August Hot Chips annual conference, with a lecture titled "Next Generation Mainstream GPU NVIDIA." Hot Chips curiously erased any mention of this recently.
Nvidia would now send invitations for Gamescom on August 21 (just like Hot Chips ends) for a mysterious PC-related event. The invitations follow a Lenovo product manager who speaks freely about the Nvidia GeForce GTX 11 Series during an E3 video. Referring to a Lenovo gaming PC, the Lenovo representative says, "But it's time to market the NVIDIA 11 Series up to 1180", suggesting that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1180 is coming soon. Nvidia also commemorated the birthday of Alan Turing on Twitter, which suggests that the company is teasing its new generation GPUs based on the Nvidia Turing platform [19659003] the prototypes began to flee
The images of an alleged engineering sample of Nvidia for the GeForce GTX 1180 leaked last week. The board has a dozen installed Micron GDDR6 memory modules, and no existing GPUs support this new memory. Micron has just launched the mass production of GDDR6, ready to replace the existing GDDR5 memory, introduced more than 10 years ago. GDDR6 will improve the bandwidth capabilities of next generation GPUs on PCs and consoles.
Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1180 should be able to play games at 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz. Acer and Asus are both starting to launch 4K game monitors that include 144Hz refresh rates, HDR and Nvidia G-Sync support. These 27-inch monitors cost $ 2,000, and they will need a card like the GTX 1180 to power them. Tom's Hardware also reports that the new GTX 1180 will be able to output up to 120Hz to VR headsets on a single proprietary cable. The newest and largest Nvidia GPU should also include 3,584 CUDA cores, a clock speed of between 1.6 and 1.8 GHz and up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory.
Bitcoin Mania, and the rush to the Ethereum mines, drove Nvidia's GPU prices up earlier this year. It now seems that this demand is starting to stabilize, and some reports even suggest that Nvidia has an inventory problem with existing cards because the demand for cryptocurrency has crashed. This could mean that it will be much easier to buy a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1180 once it's finally available, but that will ultimately depend on the power of this new card.
