The RTX 2070 will be available starting at $ 499, making it more expensive than its predecessor. But it promises to deliver more powerful and realistic lighting effects thanks to Nvidia's "ray tracing" technology.

The next Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics will be available on October 17 from $ 499.

L & # 39; Company tweeted the news Tuesday with a link to a special edition "Founders Edition" of the card that will cost a little over $ 599, but has been overclocked.

Nvidia provided no benchmarks for the card, but PCMag has seen its two more powerful siblings, the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti. We rated both as "Excellent" for their high performance and ability to run 4K games with ease.

Unfortunately, both cards are very expensive. The next 2070 is not different. It is more expensive than the old GTX 1070 card, launched two years ago for only $ 379.

What distinguishes RTX cards from older GTX models is a new feature called "ray-tracing". According to Nvidia, technology can make light and shadow effects more realistic than ever in gaming environments. The only problem is that existing games do not support ray-tracing and it's hard to know if the gaming sector will take over the technology.

Until now, developers of only 11 games, including Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, have stated that they would adopt Nvidia's ray tracing technology.

Another disadvantage of the RTX 2070 card is that it does not appear to have NVLink connectors. You will not be able to execute the card with another one on SLI. In contrast, both RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti support NVLink.

Stay tuned for our review of the RTX 2070 when the charts will be available later next month.
