Oculus TV now on go

If you are looking for the experience of watching movies or TV shows on a massive screen, but do not want to shell out money for a TV, you now have an alternative. At least you do it if you own an Oculus Go standalone VR headset because Oculus TV is now available, allowing you to enjoy a big screen without having one in your living room.

The virtual screen happens to be a really a big one too: Oculus claims that its virtual television has the equivalent of a 180-inch screen. The TV is installed in a virtual living room, even though it looks like no living room we have ever seen.

Oculus describes Oculus TV as something like a streaming box, only in VR, so that it works like something like a Roku or Apple TV. You'll see familiar names in supported services, including Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, and Showtime Anytime. These services require subscriptions, but if you want to watch without paying extra, there is plenty of free content available, including Pluto TV and Red Bull TV.

If you are a sports fan, there is something for you too. You can watch MLB Live matches via Facebook Watch, and although it's not yet available, Oculus says that ESPN will be heading to Oculus TV sometime in the future. If you prefer to stay abreast of the news, Newsy has a lot of news, as do many channels on Pluto TV.

Although it's undeniably cool, you probably do not want to throw your TV on the sidewalk yet. On the one hand, the resolution of the Oculus Go means that the 180-inch virtual screen will not be close to the clarity of a 4K Ultra HD TV or even one. 1080p TV. Secondly, you will probably experience eye strain after a certain amount of time, although your sensitivity to this issue varies from one person to the other.

If you have an Oculus Rift, you're out of luck when it comes to Oculus TV, at least for the moment. If you are looking for something to watch, there is YouTube VR, but that offers nothing next to the richness of the content. If you own an Oculus Go, you can start by downloading the Oculus TV app.
