Apple is preparing to reveal a review of its MacBook Air laptop at its flagship event that is expected to unveil the iPhone XS on September 12. This long-rumored 2018 MacBook Air has long been the subject of a regrettable update.
Many outlets through which these rumors circulate expect this update to fully bring the MacBook Air brand into the modern era. However, some of these websites claim to have heard that the laptop would also be affordable.
How will Apple manage to achieve this critical balance, especially at a time when its ability to do so has been … clearly challenged when it comes to laptops – but stronger than ever when it comes to tablets? Who knows, but what we know is what we would love to see on the 2018 MacBook Air, and we divided it into three wishes.
Amber Lake Intel Core Processors
Although these processors have been announced, they will already experience a shortage, which could affect the announcement of the MacBook Air 2018 September 12. However, they may well be key to the revival of Apple's ultra-thin notebooks.
Amber Lake's latest 8th-generation Intel processors follow last year's Intel Core Y chips, designed for ultra-thin notebooks and tablets that do not use fans in their designs to cool off. This year, Intel claims that its chips will allow laptops as light as 7 mm and less than 0.45 kg (1 pound).
The latest MacBook, Apple's flatter computer to date, currently measures 13.21 mm at its thickest point and weighs 0.92 kg. Being able to use the latest Intel processor would have allowed Apple to develop a laptop worthy of the name "Air" again.
A sharper screen (but not too sharp)
According to rumors, this review would be one of the newest on the Apple Retina display market. The 1440 x 900 screen was one of the main complaints regarding the MacBook Air, even at its initial launch.
We would be happy to take a Retina display, which an Amber Lake processor could certainly handle, but Apple should perhaps curb and stop at a mere 1080p screen. That alone would already be a massive improvement over the previous model, and would help preserve this precious autonomy. More importantly, achieving a Full HD screen would help Apple maintain an affordable price.
Given what we've heard is the purpose of this laptop, a 1920×1080 (1080p) screen is our most sought-after option for this new MacBook Air. In addition, Apple already has a laptop with an ultra-sharp screen.
This affordable price
It has been said in some reports that Apple is aiming for a more affordable price for this laptop, probably keeping the spirit of the original product. The MacBook Air has always been Apple's most affordable computer, so why break that trend now?
However, we have heard conflicting reports about how this laptop will be configured and billed. We heard that this laptop would simply revive the MacBook Air, but in a more premium presentation worthy of a four-digit price. But, we also heard that Apple is looking to keep the three-digit laptop with families and students in mind.
Anyway, we just want Apple to respect the legacy of MacBook Air, making this laptop an affordable solution for Apple fans.
