Parasite Eve is a registered trademark of Square Enix in Europe; New entry or incoming mobile game?

Parasite Eve, the dormant role and role-playing franchise over the last 8 years seems to have resurfaced as the title of the series was filed by Square Enix in Europe (via Gematsu).

Parasite was released on PlayStation in 1998 and was very well received for its real-time role combat system, high-quality cinematics, and attention to detail on the game's setting in New York.

The sequel, Parasite Eve II, was released in 2000 but has opted for more elements of survival horror in which the first has plunged. There was also a third Parasite Eve game that came out for the PSP in 2010, but that twisted the series into a third-person shooter. 3rd Anniversary was a brand new sequel to the franchise, but was also a spin-off at the same time, with little or no links to the last two entries.

Square Enix loves to launch its franchises in the mobile market to see if it stays true. This brand could therefore become a new entry into the mobile space, or even a restart or redesign. We have recently witnessed an upsurge in classic 90s game remasters such as Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. It is therefore not surprising to see Parasite Eve get noticed this time around.

You can view the trademark here on the WIPO Global Brand Database, which contains more details about the brand itself.
