Controlling what your child can and can not watch on YouTube Kids will soon become easier.

In April, YouTube promised to add a feature that allows parents to select each video and channel their child can access in the app. Now, this whitelist feature has finally arrived. It is currently limited to Android, but will soon be coming to iOS "soon," YouTube said.

To enable it, open the settings, go to your child's profile and under "content level" select "approved content only". From there, you can browse the content and press the "+" button to approve any video, channel, or channel collection that's right for you.

Once enabled, your child will only be able to watch approved videos and will not be able to search for content on their own.

Google had already announced age profiles for YouTube Kids users, but until now, parents had no way of approving and directly managing the content available.

Meanwhile, YouTube has also updated its "old" mode designed for ages 8-12 with new content such as music videos and popular games, content about nature and wildlife, cartoons, etc. To enable it, simply open the settings, go to your child's profile and under "content level", select "old".

The "younger" version, which is more restricted and adapted to kindergarten and primary school children, is the default setting. Parents can change between "younger", "older" and "approved content only" at any time. The new "older" experience is only available in the US at this point, but YouTube plans to offer it globally in the future.

"We're working hard to create videos in the family-friendly app, but no system is perfect," said James Beser, product director at YouTube Kids. "It's always possible for a parent to find something that he does not want his child to look at in" younger "or" older "experiences. If that happens, we ask parents to block and signaling the video to our team makes YouTube Kids better for everyone. "
