People spend almost as much time on Instagram as on Facebook

This month, Instagram users in the United States have spent almost as much time in the Android app as Facebook users using their app, according to new data from the online measurement company Similar Web.

On average, Instagram users spent 53 minutes a day with the Android app in June, five minutes less than Facebook users with their app. Snapchat users spent an average of 49.5 minutes in the Snap app.

Facebook, which bought Instagram in 2012, has seen a growth in time spent on its flagship application booth. If this stagnation continues, Facebook will have to rely more and more on Instagram for the growth of individual users.

Back in 2017, Snapchat had a slight advance on Instagram in terms of time spent, but Instagram has since taken a step forward. All three have seen the growth of the average commitment since then.

The time spent counts because more time in the application means that people are probably seeing more ads, which is the way all these apps are making money. The great war on mobile devices right now is to the attention of the user. These applications, in addition to more traditional media companies like Disney and Netflix, are all seeking to attract attention in an increasingly competitive landscape.

What makes this contest interesting is that some companies (think Apple and Facebook) are also starting to think that there should be limits – or, at the very least, more information – about the way which a lot time that people spend using their products. Apple recently announced new features in its latest iOS that will show people how much time they spend using certain apps. Facebook and Instagram have said that they want to do the same thing.

Similar web numbers, which include only Android data, are similar to those previously published by the companies themselves. Instagram and Snapchat have not released this type of data since last year.

As for the jump passed by Snapchat in October, this could have something to do with the introduction of its 3D World Lenses, but we do not know it.

A similar website collects data via a global panel, ISP data, public data sources and direct measurement data.
