Google's recent pixel batches are not without problems, and as more and more phones reach consumers, new problems emerge. The latest controversy stems from the apparent inability of Pixel 3 to mix more than one application at a time. In fact, taking a photo is apparently enough to kill Spotify if it plays music in the background, and during our own tests, the use of more than 3 to 4 applications can force the memory of too much. Maybe 4 GB of RAM was not enough for a flagship phone in 2018 after all, Google?
Informal reports on general memory and application management issues began before the official release of the phone. Daniel Bader of Android Central reported problems with music and podcast apps to be killed while reading, a complaint that Brands Brownlee / MKBHD has also encountered and mentioned in its recent article on Pixel 3 XL. Twitter, Reddit and Android Police comments have also been to bark with similar complaints.
Artem goes from one application to another on Pixel 3 XL and OnePlus 6.
Artem's Android Police was able to assemble a video comparing the performance of its own Pixel 3 XL to that of a OnePlus 6. In its tests, it was enough to switch from Chrome, Google+ to Twitter for Twitter to force Chrome to lose memory on the Pixel 3 XL. Requiring that the app be reloaded the next time it's open. Compared to Google's latest flagship product, the OnePlus 6 is no problem, happily blending more than twice the number of applications without forcing Chrome to run out of memory.
One sure way to kill a Spotify stream on Pixel 3 is to open the camera and take some pictures. https://t.co/9sJibz0HEQ

This background application problem could also be a potential cause behind pixel declarations that photos would not be reliably saved. While other phones have had the same behavior, this apparent problem of memory management could be a contributing factor on the Pixel 3.
In the meantime, my @oneplus 6 (photo) can open 2 dozens of applications while avoiding to reload them when I switch between them. It's amazing. Embarrass the pixel 3.
Tell me again how 4 GB is enough RAM these days. 6GB would have avoided all these problems, not to mention 8GB. pic.twitter.com/mRh6dtjqPp

We will note that # Artem's sLuck – the propensity of our boss to pull the worst of the benefits of a given gadget – could be a contributing factor. Ryan Whitwam of Android Police has not experienced the same experience with his Pixel 3, as shown in his own video. Nevertheless, the reports concerning applications such as Spotify no longer having sufficient memory on the Pixel 3 are widespread, so we do not doubt that there is a real problem, it is simply a matter of degree.
Although these issues seem to indicate a memory management problem, it is unclear if this is an immediate result of Google's decision to use 4GB of RAM – especially since most of the flagship products of 2018 have been associated with larger numbers – or another bug factor with application management in the background on the Android version, the Pixel 3 is running. I hope this is a problem that can be solved via the update. After all, you can not just download more RAM.
We have contacted Google for feedback and we will update this story as appropriate.
