Pixel 3 suddenly has a big problem

The excellent Google Pixel 3 has just been released in stores this week, and we do not blame you if you want to take one.

But if you opt for Google's latest flagship product via Verizon or Best Buy in the hope of activating it easily on another carrier, we have a bit of bad news.

According to The Verge, Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL devices purchased from Verizon (exclusive US Pixel operator) will not work with other operators' SIM cards, unless you first activate them on a Verizon network.

Verizon says that your Pixel 3 will be unlocked overnight from the day you activate it, but that it's still an additional annoying obstacle for people who wish to recover the last Google phone at their local retailer in the hope of using it immediately with the SIM card of their choice. This policy is part of an anti-theft initiative that Verizon launched earlier this year to deter people from flying into its retail stores.

If you want to avoid this problem completely, you can simply buy a unlocked Pixel 3 directly from Google from $ 799. It's not as instant as going to your local Best Buy store or Verizon (orders should be shipped by October 23 at the time of writing this article), but you'll have the freedom to use your SIM card of choice without a great alternative.
