The Nintendo Switch online service has been highly anticipated and, despite previous delays, its release is near. Now, it seems that one of its best selling features (especially if you have already lost or broken your Switch) will not be available for all games; Some headlines, such as Pokemon, Let's Go Pikachu! / Eevee and Splatoon 2, do not allow cloud backups.
As reported by Game Informer, a message stating "This game does not support Save Data Cloud backup" has begun appearing on many Eshop pages. This includes the upcoming Pokemon and Splatoon, but also Dark Souls Remastered, Dead Cells, FIFA 19 and NBA 2K19. Nintendo has said in the past that not all games support cloud backups. Other games, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Aces Tennis and other games using the multiplayer capabilities of the service, do not have any warning.
Nintendo Switch Online will go online in the "second half" of September. At this point, you will need a subscription to play online (it's free since the launch of the Switch in March 2017). In addition to multiplayer and (some) cloud backup capabilities, you'll also have access to a NES title library that will expand over time.
The service costs only $ 20 a year (much cheaper than its Xbox and PlayStation competitors). There are also options to subscribe each month, at $ 4 / month, or pay $ 8 for three months of access. There is also a $ 35 family plan that allows eight different Nintendo accounts to share the same memberships (even if multiple consoles are involved).
In other news from Nintendo Switch, Civilization 6 has been announced for the console, coming in November, and new challenges are coming up at Fortnite. If you are excited about Pokemon, let's go Pikachu! / Eevee (even in the absence of cloud backup), take a look at the version-specific Pokémon that you can catch in each.
