Pokemon let's go pikachu and let's go launch in a few months, but there is still some confusion about the game. Specifically, whether or not you can play the game in wearable mode without motion commands. IGN recently contacted Nintendo to dispel the confusion. Here's what Nintendo had to say:
Pokémon: Let's go, Pikachu! and let's go Eevee! Do not require players to use movement commands or physical gestures in Handheld mode. Instead, players can use the joystick on the Joy-Con left controller to aim and press the A button to launch a Poké Ball. The simulated launch movement associated with Joy-Con controllers or Poké Ball Plus is intended to enhance the gaming experience, but is not required to play these games. "
So the game works in handheld mode without motion commands. This is good news considering the negative reaction Super Mario Party not playable in handheld mode. A representative of The Pokémon Company also contacted IGN and said:
There is no function to disable motion commands ", but" it does not affect that player's ability to use buttons and joysticks to play the game in handheld mode. "
One step forward, two steps back.
It's really nice that fans can enjoy games in handheld mode without movement controls, but it's odd that there's no way to disable them. I guess we'll have to wait for more gameplay to see how this control scheme really works out.
