While there are a variety of apparel products on the market these days, very few manufacturers offer as much accuracy as Polar – and its latest line of apparel products is no different. Known as Polar Vantage V and Polar Vantage M, both devices offer a new optical heart rate sensor, additional tracking, and more.
For the most part, the Vantage M and Vantage V models have the same features. Under the hood, you'll find Polar Precision Prime – Polar's new wrist heart rate technology. With three types of sensors and new electrode probes to measure skin contact, both wearable technologies should have superior accuracy and faster response time to measure heart rate.
Both watches also offer continuous monitoring of heart rate and activity. That way, even on days when you're not exercising, the Vantage M and Vantage V provide you with daily calorie data and relevant data about your daily activity.
With a heart rate sensor, both devices also include a built-in GPS to track your runs, bike rides, walks, and more. But features like these tend to drain most laptops, the Vantage M and Vantage V models would offer respectively 30 hours and 40 hours of battery life.
Both solutions also include Training Load Pro, a new capability injected into Polar's Smart Coaching feature – which allows users to plan weekly goals and measure fitness levels. Not only does the new mode track the loads of each session, but it also helps athletes to know if they are not training enough, training too much, or training at the right amount.
In addition, Training Load Pro incorporates the Cardio Load function which measures the level of stress exerted on the cardiovascular system. Used in conjunction with a power sensor, it tracks muscle load to inform you of the strain on your muscles during a workout.
To add to your workout capabilities, both fitness accessories also include Polar Flow for Coach. This allows coaches to synchronize training plans with an athlete's flow account and the Vantage M or Vantage V. Athletes can then refer to their training for a daily workout and coaches can modify the workouts if necessary. .
But Smart Coaching does not stop there. The wearables also offer two features to run – Running Index will mark your performance and Running Program, which is Polar's free personalized training program, helps you train for events such as marathons. With Polar Sleep Plus, you can also follow the quality of your sleep and tips to improve it.
Both watches also include the ability to customize over 130 sports for athletes to enhance their personal performance. With swimming metrics, athletes can also track parameters such as distance and stroke rates when swimming outdoors or indoors.
But what is the difference between these two watches? While the Vantage M comes with a ton of fitness features (and a lower price), the Vantage V is a bit heavier in features – for those who consider themselves elite athletes.
For beginners, there is the Running Power feature that uses distance, speed and cadence to measure your wattage directly from your wrist. By keeping track of your watts, you can decide whether to slow down or not to finish the race in strength.
For example, say that your average for a 5 km is about 40 minutes and that the Vantage V measures your power at 160 watts. If you start the 5 km running your first mile at 200 watts, you use that power too early and you exercise too much. But if you run at your normal 160 watts, you can finish your day gently and you will not feel as much pressure on your body.
Pro Recovery, which measures the daily and long-term recovery of athletes, is also exclusive to Vantage V. Its use with Training Load Pro will help prevent injury while trying to improve overall performance. Although both technologies are aesthetically similar, the Vantage V comes with a touch screen that is always active.
The Vantage M will cost you $ 280. The Vantage V is a bit more expensive, at $ 500 in black, orange and white, in medium and large sizes – small groups can be purchased for around $ 10. You can also opt for the heart rate kit supplied with the Vantage V and Polar H10 heart rate monitor for $ 50 more.
Vantage M and Vantage V are available for pre-order on the Polar website.
