Suddenly, it is in 1978 again. With WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway as a backdrop, Porsche unveiled on Thursday the new 935 race car with a look inspired by the legendary 935s of the late '70s and early' 80s. The revelation took place at Rennsport Reunion VI , where the brand celebrates 70 years.
Based on the 911 GT2 RS, the 935 uses the same 3.8-liter, 700-horsepower rear-mounted turbocharged 6-platter. The drivers move the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission through paddles on the steering wheel.

Most of the body is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic to reduce weight to 3042 pounds. The bodywork extends over nearly 16 feet in tribute to the rider of 935/78 Le Mans in 1978, which earned him the nickname "Moby Dick" for its long tail and white base color. The aerodynamic wheels are also reminiscent of the 935/78.

Other exterior components pay tribute to other racing cars of Porsche's past. The LED taillights on the rear fin trays are inspired by the 919 Hybrid LMP1 hybrid racer, the exterior mirrors come from the current 911 RSR won by the Le Mans and the exposed titanium end caps recall the Porsche 908 from 1968.
Historical references extend into the interior. The shift knob was seen in the 917, the 909 Bergspyder and the Carrera GT. The carbon steering wheel and the dashboard color screen appear in the 2019 911 GT3 R.

The driver is attached to the racing seat with a six-point harness and protected by a safety cage. A passenger seat is optional. This is not completely uncivilized on the inside: the air conditioning is standard.
One-piece six-piston aluminum race calipers are mounted on 15.3-inch ventilated and grooved steel front brake discs, while the rear includes four-piston calipers and 14-inch discs.
The 935 is not homologated by the 911 GT2 RS and will not be able to participate in any sanctioned class. Porsche notes that it is ideal for club events and private training on race tracks.
Only 77 lucky and fortunate buyers will be able to buy the 935 refurbished at a price of $ 817,172 (701,948 euros). Deliveries will begin next June and Porsche instructors will give training on the use and driving of the car.
