Samsung sees what OnePlus, Honor, Nokia and several other smartphone brands are doing with mid-range smartphones, and wonders why its own Galaxy A series devices do not attract as much attention. This is probably because so far they have not been so exciting. But with the new Galaxy A9 2018, Samsung gave us all something to look at with envious eyes. The Live Focus is something we enjoyed about the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus. It also worked well with clear on-screen instructions and impressive end results. The ultra-wide camera has a noticeable fisheye effect, which LG has changed with the ThinQ G7, and the difference in aperture was also obvious, the ultra-wide lens does not handle the conditions brightness in the same way as the ordinary lens.
It was a very limited test, but we were impressed by the versatility of the camera. This level of functionality is rare on any phone, not to mention one that is not considered a flagship product. Samsung has even taken advantage of its scene recognition technology that debuted on the Galaxy Note 9. The camera app is identical to the one you'll find on other Samsung phones. It was fast, logical and feature rich. The only phone offering this type of versatility is the LG V40 ThinQ, which ships three cameras at the back and two at the front.

We are pleased to note that the investment in the camera did not stop the phone from feeling and working optimally. The body is made of glass and aluminum, very comfortable and lightweight by hand. Beautiful colors
If the camera turns your head, it will be one of the great color choices you will notice later. You have a choice of three options: a glossy black caviar option for the boring, or a gorgeous bubblegum rose and lemonade blue for the outrageous. The pink model looks amazing, with real depth and shine to the finish, but does not turn to a hideous red lip that you want to cover with a holster. Blue lemonade reminds us of Huawei's twilight option on the P20 Pro, with subtle fade from green to blue. Both are winners.
The software is identical to that of other Samsung phones and is based on Android Oreo, with an updated Android Pie promised in the future. It's quick and easy, even though Bixby is also in the forefront, which few people will appreciate. The less than successful Samsung Assistant can be picked up by simply swiping the screen or pressing the dedicated Bixby button on the left side of the device, which also activates Bixby Voice. Apart from its dubious utility, Samsung's Android version is visually appealing and has been pleasantly responsive to our time with the Galaxy A9.
Like many others, we are guilty of having passed the Galaxy A phone in the past. but that will stop with the 2018 Galaxy A9.
It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 6GB RAM, 128GB of internal storage space, as well as room for a MicroSD card up to 512GB. We are as guilty as many others (including Samsung) of having passed the Galaxy A phones in the past; but that will stop with the 2018 Galaxy A9.
About the price. There is a reason why the phone feels so close to a Galaxy S phone: the Galaxy A9 costs £ 550, which is US $ 725. If the Galaxy A9 was to be launched in the United States, it would probably be lower than this one. So we will compare the price with the UK here. It's a little more than the OnePlus 6 of 520 pounds, and much more than the Honor 10 of 400 pounds. We would be more in line with the cost if it was somewhere in the middle of these two prices.
Nevertheless, it is a high-end Samsung experience that we are talking about here, from the quality of construction and materials to the configuration of the software and the camera. It has a unique feature that you will not find anywhere else, as well as many features of the Galaxy S and Note devices, as well as the desirable Samsung brand name, all for a price well below the cheapest S9.
