Preparations for Google Home 2.7 integrating Google Wifi settings, adding Chrome OS device type, etc. [APK Insight]

[ad_1]

Smart screens allow Assistant to provide visual feedback, but the obvious benefit of the screen is that it is a digital photo frame for Google Photos. An update of the Google Home companion app today prepares a "minimum brightness" setting for the main hub, while some minor changes are made to the topic theme.

About APK InsightIn this 'APK Insight' article, we have decompiled the latest version of an application that Google has uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we are able to see different lines of code in this indication of possible future features. Do not forget that Google may or may not offer these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We will, however, try to allow those who are about to be finished to show you what they look like in the case they are shipped. With that in mind, read on.

Minimum brightness

Under the display settings of the home hub, a new "Set Minimum Screen Brightness" control, with options for Dark, Faded, Bright, and Bright. However, we do not know in what state – "low light" or general use – it is control. All other settings in the "General" section are for "low light" mode.

At the moment, setting up one of the four options does not change the home hub, as an accompanying firmware update is probably needed to activate the feature.

Delete voice correspondence

Further down in the device settings – under "Privacy", a new "Delete voice match" shortcut opens the Voice Matching menu of the wizard.

Theme Material Tweaks

Google Home 2.7 also offers some minor tweaks to the topic theme. Instead of just text and arrows, the appropriate rounded rectangular buttons are now used in summary screens. There is also a slight font adjustment for cards in the Explorer tab.

Chrome OS

Devices in development, such as Home Mini and Home Max, are often listed in the Google Home app before publishing. The companion client has a long history of "device_co". In Google Edition 2.7, the channel has been updated to reflect the fact that Chrome OS is the type of device that is being referred to.

One of the possible reasons for the presence of Chrome OS in the Google Home app may be that Chromebooks and more widescreen devices benefit from some features of the wizard, or become a selectable delivery target for users.

Integrated Wifi settings

A neglected part of Google's home strategy is its mesh network solution. Google Wifi could now be integrated into the Google Home app by a handful of new channels specifically referencing the brand name "Wifi" instead of the generic name "Wi-Fi".

Users could access options such as DNS settings and devices. A later version of Google Home could also indicate the number of devices connected to your network.

Cast Dogfood Enabler

Google employees frequently test early versions of software. The Google Home app now offers a 'Cast Dogfood Enabler'. Limited to employees with a google.com account, testing allows you to select a test device (including Chromecast on TVs) to get logs.

How to update?

Version 2.7 of Google Home is being rolled out through the Play Store. We do not publish APKs for download directly because of legal difficulties related to copyright and the possibility of deletion. In the meantime, this model is perilous given Android's bundled bundles of apps and dynamic Google Play delivery.

Thanks to JEB Decompiler, which benefit some disassembly of APK Insight.
