It's Black Friday Week. If you are a fan of PlayStation, you may have the eye on this pretty Spider Man PS4 pack. If you already have a PS4, you may want to finally get the amazing God of the war, or the now classic Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, or even the dramatic cutscene Detroit: Becoming Human. Maybe the cross-platform is more your style, so maybe the GOTY candidate Red Dead Redemption 2 is on your radar, or maybe you just want a truck of Fortnite V-Bucks so you can buy all those sweet skins.
And if I told you that PSVR should be on your shopping list, with a copy of a little game called Astro Bot Rescue Mission? It turns out that the game currently has its own lot – packed with a helmet, a camera and a device equally breathtaking. Foam– on sale now on GameStop at a reasonable price of $ 199.99. If you have never tried PSVR, or if you are just curious about what the best system has to offer, you can consider taking one of these bundles. But what is it? Astro Bot to deal with, and is it really this well?
Since its silent release last month, I hear a lot about the stellar VR of Sony's 3D platform in Japan. A quick glance at Metacritic reveals that the unpretentious killer application is far beyond a series of recent versions (* cough *) Fallout 76 * cough *), with a score of 90 critics and 89 users. Not bad, Rescue mission. Not bad at all. But after playing for a few days now, having explored much of what the game has to offer, does he respect the hype? I would say I would say that it exceeds. Which makes it a pity that it seems that nobody knows it.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission has been accurately compared to some of the best 3D Super Mario titles, and as soon as you enter the first level, it's very easy to see why. And it's not a bad thing that the game carries both its structural and gameplay inspirations, because in the end, the Sony Japan team was inspired by what Nintendo does best and created something something unique to PlayStation. Good artists copy, great artists steal and all that.
You have your levels largely linear, which look more like something like Bandicoot Crash or Neo Super Magnetic than Super Mario 64. The whole configuration is probably closer to Super Mario 3D World. Then you will have your coins, which you will collect throughout the beautiful steps to spend them later in a very cool redemption crane game, in which you will win pieces of miniature 3D game games that you can browse to your will. And since this is an official rescue mission, there are many lost Astro Bots, eight per level that you need to find and save. This creates a nice replayability because some of these little guys are really well hidden.
Speaking of hidden things, one of the aspects of this game is to force you to look around while you play, and I'm talking all around– 360 degrees. There will be times when you will need to squat down to look inside the caves, admire the perilous alleys while your hero walks the dangerous abyss, watch your robot friend sneak into an impressive roller coaster track of away, then at other times I will hear the tears of a lost and sad bot stuck somewhere behind you and who will have to turn around completely to find him. Like the brilliant Foam before that, Rescue mission Plunge players into imaginary imaginary worlds, fill their landscapes with whimsical characters and evil traps, and most importantly, show you the true potential of virtual reality through bespoke experiences.
Whether it's hitting a virtual football ball or breaking obstacles with my head, throwing ninja stars with the touch pad on spider webs to beat a boss, to watch the water of the sea invade my helmet, and that a giant bee breaks the glass of my viewfinder. literally ducked his projectiles, pulling on the tooth of a giant monkey with a real pulling motion, or my absolute favorite, blowing the seeds of a giant dandelion – I did not stop pronouncing the same Sentence: Wow, it's so much fun! Every little moment in Astro Bot Rescue Mission felt like a little virtual gift, made by hand. I also had the impression of playing through the last segment of Nick Arcade, you know, the one where every child has always messed up. Yes, that kind of thing, only happier.
To be fair, I have been hard on PSVR in the past (I rightly think so), and if you want to know why these opinions were harsh, do not hesitate to explore some of my previous articles. But between this little masterpiece and FoamI'm not talking only about PSVR, but VR in general. It still tires my eyes. This can sometimes make me sick, especially if there is independent camera movement in a particular game, even if it slowly improves. It's still not like that I would like to play most of my video games. But I think that for special experiences like this, there really is no way to do it. Of course, you could rework this game to make it a standard 3D platform game, but it just would not be the same.
As is always the case at this time of year, there is a plethora of exciting titles to play, and it's not like they're going to stop going out, either. So, if you already have PSVR and are looking for a game that will actually dust off the spider webs, look no further. And if you're thinking of diving into the PSVR, there's really no better way to start.
Disclosure: Sony has provided a revision product for hedging purposes.
