PS4 servers down as PSN problems encountered, making some games unplayable [UPDATE: FIXED!]

[UPDATE] Problems with the PlayStation Network seem to be resolved now, according to the PSN Status website. The original story follows below:

If you can not play a game right now on PS4, it may not be you. Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Network is currently experiencing issues that may impact your ability to connect and play games.

"We are aware that users have problems accessing certain features on PSN," Sony said through its official Twitter support account. "Thank you for your patience while we investigate." It does not offer any other details, but a look at the PSN's status page identifies gambling services and social services as the problem area. The message reads, "You may have difficulty launching games, applications, or online features. Our engineers are trying to fix the problem as quickly as possible, and we thank you for your patience."

Various Developers have also noted the problems faced by players in their games, including Bungie with Destiny 2. It is unclear what is causing the problem, but the biggest event of the day is undoubtedly the launch of Fortnite Season 5 changes and additions to the popular royal battle game. This game is facing what seems to be its own unrelated problems with PS4 because the Epic status page notes that some players can not join a party with their friends. On all platforms, the game also faces voice chat issues in the game.

We will report as new details are shared.
