Razer Phone 2 Practice Review – Stand Up Against the Best of Apple

[ad_1]

Razer unveiled its second-generation Razer Phone 2 phone earlier this month in an effort to beat Apple by offering the best smartphone for gamers.

The $ 800 device offers a 120-hertz display and an 8-millisecond response time, making it faster than Apple's most competitive iPhone XS and XS Max phones when it comes to refreshing screen for a quick game. I have the Razer Phone 2 for 11 days and I have also played with the iPhone XS Max.

The iPhone XS Max has a better camera than the Razer Phone 2, based on side-by-side photos I took. Again, Apple devices are much more expensive (the iPhone XS Max costs $ 1,100 with 64 GB of storage). The $ 750 iPhone XR is closer to the Razer Phone 2's price / feature ratio, and in most cases the Razer Phone 2 can beat this Apple device.

Razer said that his goal was to take comments into account and make the Razer Phone 2's cameras better than those of the first phone. And that was done, and helped improve performance by 30% over the original $ 700 Razer Phone released a year ago.

Min-Liang Tan, CEO of Razer, said the phone is designed to offer Razer's 50 million gamers – who bought laptops, mice, keyboards and other peripherals – a "quality console" experience. On a gaming smartphone.

What you will like

The games are playing well

You can use the Razer Phone 2 device as a phone, as a YouTube or Netflix viewer, or as a web browser device. But games are what makes or breaks its purpose in your life. After all, cheaper phones can also do all those things.

I have only had this device for 11 days and I have not played any game very intense. He can perform pretty action games such as Shadow Fight 3, Nekki's sword fighting game, especially well. While the screen is refreshing twice as fast as Apple devices, I can not say that I noticed a difference between Shadow Fight 3 on the iPhone XS Max and the Razer Phone 2. Given a price difference of $ 300 for devices, I would say it's a win for Razer.

The Zynga CSR2 drag racing game also looked great on the Razer Phone 2. You can see how it looked like on the Razer device above, and you can also see how it looked like on the iPhone XS Max in the video below. You will notice the brilliance of cars and the overall quality of 3D images and the speed of play.

I also played the Gear Club racing game and PlayerUnknown's mobile battlegrounds on the Razer Phone 2. The racing game was beautiful and it did not stutter when I shot in the turns and pushed the pedal to the ground. It's no surprise that Razer has partnered with PUBG Corp. to broadcast live Pro-Am PUBG Mobile tournament, at its revelation event.

Meanwhile, PUBG worked so well that I could shoot a guy who had the misfortune to land next to me. I had a weapon and he did not have one. But the fact is that it looked good. I heard if anyone was behind me, perhaps thanks to the surround sound, although I can not say for sure.

Specifications offer high-end performance

The 2560 x 1440 resolution screen is fast, no rips or delays. The Razer and the new iPhones both have a 120 Hz display for touch detection. But the refresh of the screen on new Apple devices is 60 hertz, while the Razer device has a discount rate of 120 hertz.

The Razer Phone 2 comes with a 5.72-inch IGZO UltraMotion LCD, 50% brighter (at around 645 NITS) and a wider color gamut.

The device uses Qualcomm's 2.8-GHz 8-core Snapdragon 845 processor and Qualcomm Adreno 630 graphics processing unit. It offers 20-30% better performance than the previous 835-based Razer phone. Apple chip A12 Bionic iPhone XR has six cores and the resolution of the phone is less than 828 x 1792 pixels.

Razer claims that the Razer Phone 2 has the # 1 Geekbench, GPU Basemark and 3Dmark Slingshot benchmarks. It's quite possible, the Snapdragon 845 being the highest ranked chip.

Razer uses its patented steam chamber cooling system, a trick he has learned from his PC gaming machines. The liquid-based steam chamber absorbs heat and diffuses it over the entire surface of the phone.

Razer Chroma makes the logo more beautiful and useful

Razer's green logo lights up on the back when in use, as the phone can now handle the Razer Chroma's 16.8 million color options.

One of the interesting uses of this feature is that the phone can shine in different colors, depending on the type of visual notification it sends you. If you have a new Gmail message, it will shine with a color. If you have a text message, it may shine in a different way. If you have an instant chat message, it will light yellow.

Sound is what you expect from a gamer phone

You can sound the sounds of two front speakers on the Razer Phone 2.

The phone speakers are Dolby Atmos certified. It can handle Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and Netflix HDR videos. I watched a scene from Black Panther on the smartphone and I had the impression of watching a much bigger screen. The sound is loud and clear, coming out of the dual front stereo speakers and the 24-bit digital-to-analog converter. I do not complain about the sound of the Razer Phone 2, except that it can be too loud.

Razor prices are competitive

At $ 800, the Razer Phone 2 is a very good deal since flagship smartphones go.

Razer will sell a Satin edition $ 100 to $ 900. It's still well below Apple's most competitive smartphone, the iPhone XS Max, which has a 6.5-inch screen for a starting price of $ 1,100. The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch display and sells for $ 1,000. The Razer 2 phone is more than a direct match for the iPhone XR.

Good battery life and fast charging function

Wireless charging is now enabled on the Razer Phone 2 with its new glass. Razer has
announced its new wireless charger with Chroma. If you prefer to connect a USB-C cable, Qualcomm QuickCharge 4+ allows users to charge their phone with a 50% discharged battery in 30 minutes.

The device has a battery of 4,000 milliamps, which gives it a lifetime of a day. While its predecessor was compared to 10 hours of battery life with a refresh rate of 90 Hertz, the Razer Phone 2 is optimized for a range of 10 hours to 120 hertz.

Personalization allows you to express yourself

Game Booster may suggest settings for games on your Razer Phone 2.

You can customize the Razer Phone 2 by adding a theme for Tekken's Christie or a favorite Vainglory character if you wish. Razer does not charge anything extra for these "skins" for your mobile device.

You can also use a feature called Game Booster (in Razer's Cortex mobile app) to optimize the phone for specific games, exchanging performance and battery life. You can create a custom profile, switch to power saving mode, or use a performance mode.

What you will not like

The camera is not as good as what Apple offers

Razer officials acknowledged that they had to work on the quality of their cameras. The new phone has a different camera, in response to comments from fans who were not completely satisfied with the first. Nevertheless, the camera facing the back of the Razor Phone 2 does not take pictures as well as the iPhone XS Max.

In distant images, like the one above, it's hard to tell the difference. But with close-ups of people, I felt that the iPhone's camera was taking great pictures.

The Razer sensors passed from Samsung to Sony IMX offer better light sensitivity, low noise and contrasting images. Autofocus and white balance are more refined, resulting in better overall image quality. It has optical image stabilization and better optical architecture. It also works best with HDR technology, extracting details from well-lit and shaded parts of the same image.

This camera has a different location for 12-megapixel wide-angle wide-angle wide angle cameras, which are placed at the center of the phone instead of the top. The changes to the camera required more space, which required a new location for the camera. Each of the two cameras at the back is farther away, which gives them a better perception of the depth. Rear cameras also have a 12-megapixel telephoto lens
lens with 2x zoom. The front camera measures 8 megapixels and supports Full HD live streaming.

While all this is an improvement, I think that Apple can still beat Razer here.

Android Gaps

It does not have a face-unlocking feature or 3D face recognition, while the new Apple X Series phones come with FaceID, an easy way to unlock your phone. You'll also need to pay attention to security risks for things like side-loading (important for games like Fortnite on Android), because Android hacks are not that nice and frequent.

Conclusion

Above: Razer Phone 2 is a player lifestyle product.

I think Razer has created a phone designed for gaming and able to reproduce or surpass the gaming experience on the best Apple phones. However, Razer has to compromise on the quality of the camera, and maybe that's why it's not as expensive as Apple's.

But if you're looking for a smartphone to support your obsession with gambling when you're on the run, it's hard to think of a better device than the Razer Phone 2.
