Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PS4 and Xbox One and includes a large open world to explore.

It is easy to deviate from the main storyline and there is still a huge piece of the game missing.

Fans are currently waiting for Rockstar Games' next major announcement in 2018 – when will the multiplayer launch for Red Dead Online begin?

RDR2 will not be just an offline experience and will soon be expanding to a large online mode, much as we have seen with GTA Online.

Analysts have already predicted that Red Dead Online could be a significant new source of revenue for Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

So when is Red Dead Redemption 2 online available?

Rockstar Games has confirmed that the experience of Red Dead Online will begin with an online beta.

This means that everyone with a copy of the game on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to play online without buying an extension pack.

The only drawback is that both consoles will probably require players to subscribe to a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription.

This new beta version of Red Dead Redemption Online is expected to begin in November, but no release date has been confirmed.

Some fans think that an announcement will soon be made on what will be included in the RDR2 multiplayer mode.

GTA Online was launched a few weeks after the main match and could therefore be considered a model for Red Dead Online.

If that proves the case, we should have some sort of trailer released in the next few days.

Otherwise, fans will have to wait a little longer to get more information on the exciting new game mode offered to the consoles.

Here's what Rockstar Games has shared on the multiplayer project up to now:

"Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience of the original Red Dead Redemption game. It combines narration, competitive gameplay and cooperative, new fun ways.

"Based on the gameplay of the next edition of Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends. It will also include constant updates and adjustments to develop and evolve this experience for all players.

"The launch of Red Dead Online is scheduled for November 2018, initially in the form of a public beta, with other news coming soon. As with most online experiences of this size and scope, there will inevitably be turmoil at launch.

"We look forward to working with our great and dedicated community to share ideas, help solve initial problems and work with us to turn Red Dead Online into a truly fun and innovative solution."

The Rockstar Games developers also explained how they want the new Red Dead Redemption 2 Online experience to work.

GTA Online is expected to slow down, especially considering the number of vehicles to be used during the Wild West period will be limited.

They did not specify when Red Dead Online will be defined, whether it is a prior experience in story mode, or something defined in the years to come.

What they have confirmed is that they will use some of the best content in GTA Online as templates to use for their own work.

This does not mean that we will see Red Dead Online stand out in the mold of GTA 5, but more, they hope to combine narration and gameplay in a special event for a multiplayer experience.

Josh Needleman of Rockstar told IGN about Red Dead Online:

"Red Dead Redemption 2 will go further in these ideas and associate them with everything we've learned in the years since. These are the favorite elements of Grand Theft Auto Online that explain how to make truly entertaining and complex competition and competition experiences in open worlds, and how to introduce multiplayer narrative elements … "

"As in the story of Arthur Morgan in the single-player game, we want people to settle into their characters online and feel as though each activity makes sense to the character, the frame and the hour. It should feel intimate and personal, while being fun and action-packed from one moment to the next.

"We have tried to use the best elements and content packs in Grand Theft Auto Online and use them as templates for what we make here. We believe that Grand Theft Auto Online really only found its mark in Heists.

"This pack, with After Hours, The Doomsday Heist, Gun Running and a few others represents the best of Grand Theft Auto Online and provided the template for what we wanted to use here (not in terms of content, of course, but how they have combined narration, gameplay, modes and other content into a coherent thematic set) alongside all the elements we've enjoyed from the old multiplayer of Red Dead Redemption. "

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also dropped hints about how much the company had planned for the new multiplayer experience.

Referring to it as something that might be "unexpected" for fans, it seems like they're ready to get the boat out.

"My belief is that Red Dead Redemption 2 will break expectations and that the online experience will also be extraordinary, but unexpected. And in my opinion, all great successes are, by their nature, unexpected.

"It is the objective. There is an expectation around the table here, of course, there is an expectation at Rockstar Games and there is an expectation from the consumers.

"But our job is to exceed those expectations. And fingers crossed, that's what we're all determined to do.

"And we could not predict that and presume anything against Grand Theft Auto V and we would not do it with Red Dead Redemption 2. So we're just working, doing the best job possible . we can."
