Red Dead Redemption 2, the adventure in the open world of Rockstar Games, could require users to create a Rockstar Games Social Club account before playing the game. According to an email from the developer's customer support team posted to the popular ResetEra game forum, Red Dead Redemption 2 requires a unique Internet connection to allow players to create or connect to a Rockstar Games Social Club account. As its name implies, the Rockstar Games Social Club is a social networking service (and a digital rights management tool) designed by developers such as GTA V, Max Payne 3 and now Red Dead Redemption 2.
"I would like to inform you that you will be able to play on your PS4 Pro and read your previous request. You will need a single internet connection by logging into Social Club to connect to the game. at the game session ", reads in an email from Rockstar Games customer support.
While previously Rockstar Games used the Social Club, it was not mandatory. This time, that does not seem to be the case. However, it will be interesting to see if Rockstar is considering solving this problem outside of its support channels. Since the service has had its fair share of hackers, Rockstar Games may be confident in its security, especially with Red Dead Redemption 2 en route.
The same ResetEra user also confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 can at least be played on PS4, with no additional download.
"We would like to inform you that you can keep the pre-order because Red Dead Redemption 2 will be fully functional and playable from the disc on PS4," reads in an email from the Rockstar Games support team. It's unclear if this is the case with the Xbox One version of the game yet. Nevertheless, on October 26, we will know it soon enough.
