Despite the Tokyo Game Show held last week, news about the future of PlayStation consoles and the PS5 was surprisingly rare.

That said, there is an interesting news that caught our attention and that we apparently missed a few weeks ago.

Jez Corden of Windows Central has fanned the fires by claiming to have heard some rumors about Sony's plans for the PlayStation Network with their next console.

The author goes on to suggest that Sony might consider revising the entire PSN infrastructure for its next hardware launch.

"We heard some rumors about the fact that Sony was working on a big update of the infrastructure / platform for the PSN in time for the PS5." It does not seem like they're resting on their laurels ", Corden told his disciples.

Now all the above is clearly without proof. But having said that, we've already talked with Jez and he's a guy standing up. Certainly, not the kind that we think would broadcast news. And for the moment, it's only rumors.

But that raises an interesting question. How will Sony improve the PSN, which, compared to Microsoft, seems to have a few steps back?

Of course, Sony sells games and consoles like buns compared to Microsoft. But backward compatibility, Game Pass and many more have made Xbox Live the platform of choice for base players.

How can Sony improve this? How will they use the cloud more efficiently? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Introduction – The Sony PS5 is coming soon, which we know for sure. But the exact details on the next PlayStation console are constantly changing like the sands of time. And until the company makes cast-iron ads, it's unlikely that we'll know the exact details of the video game giant's next move.

But what is clear is that in the last three or four months, discussions around the PlayStation 5 (as well as Xbox Scarlett) have reached unprecedented levels.

It's unclear whether this is indicative of previous rumors that the PS5 development kits were out of the blue, but that suggests we're nearing a critical point in the PS4's life cycle.

Even with a barrel excellent charge The PS4 exclusives remain to come, the console begins (very) slowly to deflate.

E3 2018 has failed to announce Sony's PS5 console, but one would think that they will not be able to avoid it next year at E3 2019.

As such, we expect information, leaks, specifications and even "next generation" gaming announcements to begin to grow rapidly over the next 12 months.

For the moment, however, we have some details, predictions and sectoral analyzes that you need to check, which we will update every week.

All this and many more can be found under the gallery, which for those who wonder is a series of conceptual images of the French designer Joseph Dumary.

PS5 Release Date – When does PlayStation 5 arrive?

This is probably one of the most important questions asked by console owners, but also one of the most difficult to answer.

We will start at the beginning. We know very well that Sony is developing a new PS5 console, as confirmed by Shawn Layden, who is, for anyone who does not know, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) as well as President of SIE Worldwide Studios.

Layden confirmed in an interview at the E3 2017 that the PS5 is coming, but also the console would "Probably time" before being announced by the company.

And more recently PlayStation CEO John Kodera told investors that the PS4 "is entering the final phase of its life cycle" after five years of exceptional success.

That's why we believe that an announcement is expected to arrive at E3 2019 with a view to the release of the PS5 by Sony in 2020.

PS5 Release Date – Why 2020?

In general, 2020 seems to be the date accepted by most industry experts and analysts that Sony will launch a new console.

In addition, the only source and prediction that we are inclined to believe the most comes from Digital Foundry.

Eurogamer's sister site is well-known for its deep dives in game performance for how they work on a console and they are, in our opinion, among the best technical experts in console games.

So when they write a story titled "PlayStation 5: When Can Sony Really Realize a Generation Gap?" You notice

For those who do not want to read right now, the prevailing opinion of the story seemed to suggest that it would be foolish to assume that Sony would release a new console before the fourth quarter of 2019, but that a launch in 2020 would be very likely.

PS5 Price – How much would the PlayStation 5 console cost?

Again, we can not say for sure without a Sony cast advert. But based on previous versions, it is more than possible to make an educated and credible guess.

When the PlayStation 4 was launched in 2014, it was available for £ 349 in the UK and $ 399 in the USA.

A few years later, Sony launched its new powerful PlayStation 4 Pro and it was also launched at the same price as the original PS4, to £ 349 in the UK and $ 399 in the USA.

We think it's here that we'll see the launch of the PS5, the PS4 Pro becoming the default PS4 model at a discounted price. £ 259 in the UK and $ 299 in the United States.

It also seems that the serious mistake made by Sony, which burned a lot of fans with the excessively high introductory price of £ 425 in the United Kingdom and $ 499 in the United States, was also learned.

So we think you will not pay more than £ 399 for the PS5, if not closer to £ 350.

SP5 Games – What new titles could we play at launch?

The PS3 in the era of PS4 gave us our first true taste of multi-platform broadcast games. And wisely too. The Last of Us and GTA 5 are both nearing the end of the PS3 console's lifecycle, but they have become even more PS4-compliant.

And we think that the jump between the PS4 and the PS5 will also bring many more intergenerational games coming out for the first time on PlayStation 4 before receiving a new version with larger graphics bonuses on the PS5.

So, although we can not say for sure which games will come on PS5, for the moment, we can suggest some as the first competitors to come on the next console, as well as some annual releases that.

The games we think of include:

  • The death
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Call of Duty
  • FIFA 2021 on PS5
  • PES 2021 on PS5
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  • Starfield
  • The Elder Scrolls 6

Call of Duty 2019 Tip

An offer of employment for the upcoming Call of Duty game from Infinity Ward might have given a clue to the release date of the next Sony console.

The reason is largely to the list implying that the role of the work suggests that the game is in development for several next-generation platforms.

According to the list of jobs on the SelectMinds recruitment site, Infinity Ward hires a temporary narrative writer to work on a "new exciting and unexpected game" under development for "multiple next generation platforms. "

To be clear, the list does not say explicitly that this is for Call of Duty, but since Infinity Ward has not developed anything apart from Call of Duty games, you'd be surprised if they hire for something else.

At this point, it is generally thought that any new generation system, both for the next PS5 console and for the next Microsoft Xbox, would arrive at the earliest in 2020.

The implication is then neither, next generation the consoles arrive much earlier than expected, or Infinity Ward are not develop the game Call of Duty next years, but the following year.

The only problem with the latter is that, in general, the developers of Call of Duty are working on three-year cycles, next year is the turn of Infinity Ward.

In the same way, the only way to change this, in our opinion, is to create a new developer for a new annual Call of Duty publication. Who knows, maybe Raven Software, who worked on the modern war remaster, might be up to it. Only time will tell …

SP5 Compatibility with previous versions – Will PS4 games work?

The current PS4 console uses a AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), based on x86-64 machine architecture.

Now it's hypothetical, but if Sony uses this same the architecture in the upcoming PS5 console (which appears, probably), there is a good possibility that the machine will be able to offer backward compatibility feature with PS4 titles.

SP5 Compatibility with Previous Versions – Will PS3 Games and Earlier Versions Work?

This seems more unlikely since the same the architecture does not support this feature.

We believe that in the future, it is more likely that Sony will continue to promote its PS Now digital service, which currently offers more than 650 games covering different PS2, PS3 and PS4 systems.

Currently, PS Now works as a streaming service on PS4 and PC. But if we believe the rumors, PS Now could move to a new system also to download games to play offline. This goes through an anonymous source from Kotaku in the UK that says the new feature will be launched in September.

SP5 Features – What do developers want?

September 16, 2018 – The latest and most exciting news of the upcoming PS5 comes from an AMD boss, the company that processors and graphics card for your favorite game consoles,

In one recent interview with CNBCAMD's CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, apparently confirmed that the company was contributing to "Secret Sauce" forSony and Microsoft consoles.

This is what Su said:

"We really appreciate our partnerships with all our major customers. Microsoft with Windows and game consoles. We have a vision of the evolution of cloud computing and we are very attentive. We consider that part of our strength is that we can work with all the customers […] and we can differentiate with each one of them. We work with Sony and Microsoft on the consoles, and both have their own secret sauce that we help them do. "

Now, it should be noted that yes, Su never specifically said that AMD is working on New Sony and Microsoft consoles.

However, you would think from here that's what she's talking about. Likewise, as wccftech.com has pointed out, Su's comments were made during an investment show, which you think is more forward-thinking than talking about any element. linked to the PS4 / Xbox One.

Anyway, when you start talking openly about a CEO, you have to think that the new consoles are going on behind the scenes.

September 13, 2018 – The latest developer to talk about the potential of the next generation of consoles is Scott Phillips, game director for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Tech Radar recently had the chance to preview the game and had time to ask how the developer could be able to bring the acclaimed series to the next level with the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles.

In response, Phillips suggests a number of ways to improve the series. Here is his conversation:

TechRadar: What do you think of Next-Gen consoles? And what next-generation hardware would you do with a series like Assassin's Creed?

Phillips: Well, I think I can look at what Yves Guillemot said in terms of streaming being the future and more people with access to this type of games because they do not have to buy a console to play. I think in terms of opportunities creatively, obviously improving things like AI, world credibility, credibility and interactivity; how much you can push and pull the world and how it reacts to you, as well as how we keep the game active and active for players, because the idea of games having an extended life or play time Prolonged you do not necessarily throw it … are the areas where Assassin's Creed could continue to progress in the future.

Scott Phillips also gives more details to give some more examples, but you'll find it on the Tech Radar website.

August 5, 2018 – The latest developer to share his opinions on the subject comes from the Divinity Original Sin 2 team, Larian, who hinted that the next generation of consoles would benefit greatly from other physics-based events.

Asked what the developers wanted from the next generation of consoles, a spokesman for Larian said:

"More power for physics-based events, so you can rely less on scripts and animate everything and more about the material taking care of that dynamically.

"For example, why can not I take a bottle and use it as a weapon, and if it breaks for any reason (it hits something), continue to use it as a weapon in any state? "

"This kind of thing is not really possible at the moment, but soon it will be, I'm looking for richer sandbox experiences where you can really get into a situation and do whatever you want.

"Right now we're limited by the choice because the possibilities are scripted, physics has the potential to unlock more."

It's likely this is not the last time we hear developers share their views on the new PlayStation or Xbox console.

July 24, 2018 – The PlayStation 5 needs "more of everything" if the games will improve in the next generation of consoles.

This is the verdict of the director of the game Assassin's Creed, Scott Phillips.

His title, Odyssey, is expected to come out in about three months, and while he expects it to be Assassin's best story, he believes there is much more that can be done in the future if the next generation of consoles takes power.

Scott said his biggest expectation was the PS5 in 2020: "More. More of everything.

"I think connected features will continue to be important as more and more players connect and want to be connected with their friends. the sharing button and that sort of thing will be bigger and bigger.

"That's why things like photo mode are coming back for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. We want to engage with the community and hope that the platforms will continue to allow it.

It comes after Ubisoft's chief manufacturer, Lionel Raynaud, has suggested that next-generation technology could expand the Assassin's Creed line.

He thought that a single Assassin's Creed title could have "several periods and historical settings" with the Animus moving from one to the other, unlike the one-time cards of the current games.

June 7, 2018 – Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, revealed what could be the shape of the next generation of consoles.

Guillemot – which has been part of the industry since 1986! – recently told IGN what he thought the next generation of consoles should offer players (and how Ubisoft can contribute to it).

In the interview, Yves notes that the machines will be more powerful (that's a given), but that more power in the console will be pushed towards better streaming experiences. He also complies that models will be scalable – that people can choose models that fit their needs.

"The machines will be more powerful and the data transfer system will be more efficient, so we will have a better streaming experience than having to buy a machine and change the machine regularly," he says.

"We will have different models, everyone will be able to choose the model that corresponds to the type of amount they want to invest in. What I would like is the diversity of the models I do not like." a specific way to participate I would like to keep different types of approaches so that everyone can play with each other.

He also notes that games will become more collaborative and that the dividing line between player and creator will sometimes be blurred.

"We think it's very important to get the community involved in creating the game so that they really feel comfortable when they play. Going on HitRecord was a way to organize these things so that we can work with a lot of people, we work very well, we see a lot of fantastic proposals, it will really improve the diversity and the appeal of the game.

"[In the future], the games are going to be huge worlds. It will be really nice to have more creators able to create completely different environments than just a team [of developers], even if it's 500 people, can imagine. "

It's a pretty utopian idea – and one that could be even closer to what we realize.

Sony continues to learn from the mistakes of the past

As any Sony PlayStation fan knows and remembers, the transition from PS2 to PS3 was one of the most difficult times for the console giants.

But a late launch and an extremely high price have meant that the PlayStation 3 has taken a step back and has given Microsoft the advantage with its launch on Xbox 360.

In discussions with Eurogamer at Develop in Brighton recently, Shuhei Yoshida, of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, recalled these difficult days and also promised that future PlayStation consoles would no longer make the same mistakes.

"Ken [Kutaragi] was such a brilliant engineer – the team that worked for Ken was very motivated, he was a great motivator. Maybe he was using video games to realize his vision and dreams – he wanted to become the next Intel or something. He has always approached gaming systems in development, until the PS3 – they are working on a system all by themselves, "Yoshida said.

"And we did not have access until that was done. He trusted the developers – whatever he did, the main developers would be able to work with them and understand them. He did not see the need to involve game developers in the design of the system – that's how the PS3 was created. And you know how successful it was. "

"It's human nature," Yoshida added. "People make mistakes, I do not know why, we're all human – we're not perfect, PS4 is doing very well, but we do not forget why we're here now."

The suggestion, perhaps, is that by not including the developers in the process of building the new machine, it has created more work for these teams. But as we heard from Digital Foundry, Mark Cerny, formerly the lead architect of the PS4, was again "on his way to talk to developers about their needs for the next-generation PlayStation."

It certainly does not sound like Sony is too enthusiastic to relive the same mistakes they have made in the past.

Michael Pachter, a long-time industry analyst and hypothetical spokesperson, conducted an interview with GamingBolt, sounding his predictions for the next generation of consoles.

Pachter, who is an analyst at Wedbush Securities, thinks Microsoft will be the next door with its next-generation console – supposedly code name Xbox Scarlett – beat Sony and drop the PS5.

"I'm sure Microsoft intends to launch first, and I'm just as sure that the new Xbox will be backward compatible with all Xbox One X software," Pachter said in the interview.

"I agree with the fact that it's difficult for Xbox One X buyers, but they need to know 4 years into the cycle that there is another one. I guess Microsoft intends to launch in 2020, but they think that Sony is going [to launch the PS5] then, they will get started early.

The question is whether this is true or not, but with recent conversations on the Microsoft Scarlett platform, the race for the new generation is starting to grow.

During the Gamesport E3 2018 had the chance to talk with Eric Bright, director of GameStop Merchandising, quickly spoke about the potential of the next generation of consoles.

Specifically, Bright quickly suggested that the launch of the new PS5 and Xbox console in a few years will see another significant increase in sales, which he termed "binge eating."

Bright also cited the example of the recent launch of Nintendo Switch, pointing out that the company was selling faster than it was getting consoles.

"When is always the big question. Phil Spencer announced that they were working on a new Xbox, which everyone thinks, I think. When, I do not know. Honestly, I do not do it. But like all the material transitions that have taken place – and GameStop has already gone through a lot – it's a great moment for us. "

"It will be a feeding frenzy that I expect to generate huge traffic in our stores," concluded Bright.

However, it will be interesting to see if the store's sales will be affected in the long run, especially with the fact that the conversation on the consoles becomes less dependent on physical media and disk drives.

Another report released this week by investment banker Piper Jaffray, written by analysts Michael J. Olson and Yung Kim, suggests that the physical gaming market is shrinking by about 10 points a year.

The report also points out that profit margins would increase significantly if consoles were 100% digital because distribution costs would be (virtually) eliminated.

"We believe that it is certain that video games will be 100% digital in the coming years and that, although the exact timing is difficult to determine, we believe that 2022 is a realistic expectation" Olson and Kim.

While we doubt that the next generation of console completely removes disk drives, we would not be surprised if the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet ushered in a new digital wave for consoles, focused on broadcast platforms such as the existing PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass initiatives.
