Remember RTX? It's in a video game now

If you bought a Nvidia RTX graphics card, you can finally take advantage of the new function of your new GPU. All you need to do is update a few programs and subscribe to the Electronic Arts premium subscription service.

Battlefield V is officially the first game to support real-time ray tracing. This feature allows light to hyper-realistically reflect on surfaces such as windows and puddles. The game can use this feature if you fulfill a number of conditions. Most importantly, you must run an Nvidia RTX 2070, 2080 or 2080 Ti. And as you can imagine, the higher the number of your GPU, the faster it will handle this expensive feature in calculation.

Do not forget to keep your software up-to-date

In addition to the video card, you will also need a subscription to Origin Access to download the game, drivers Nvidia GeForce 416.94 and the latest Windows update. This is the Windows 10 October 2018 update, which Microsoft actually extracted due to bugs last month. It is back and still supports the DirectX Raytracing (DXR) graphics API needed to enable RTX.

If you have all the updates and the appropriate hardware, you should see "DXR enabled" in the video settings of Battlefield V. Or that's what I understood, I have not been able to try yet. The Windows 10 update is running on my machine, and it looks like it's locked on the "Do not reboot your PC" screen.

RTX worth it?

I will soon dive into RTX. I can not wait to see if that matches Nvidia's hype. For the moment I do not know. In my opinion, under certain circumstances, it will look good. But I also think that most people may want to turn it off if the leap of loyalty has a significant impact on performance.

But again, I do not know if it will happen. I'm delighted to see what Battlefield V looks like. It's already a beautiful game, and maybe RTX could surpass it.
