There are several reports of private messages managed on PS4 consoles, the patch requiring a factory reset of the hardware. Sony has not commented yet, but for now, it's best to limit your posts to friends or anyone at all.

As explained VG247, owners of PS4 signal via Reddit that their console is hidden when a new private message or even that the notification of a new message appears on the screen. Attempting to delete the message with the help of the mobile application does not solve the problem. The only fix is to reset your console at the factory.
Although not being a console killer, it's more than a little frustrating to know that your PS4 can be destroyed with a message. For the moment, Sony has not commented and so the exploit can continue to work at any time. However, you can prevent this from happening on your PS4 by changing settings quickly.
Just go to Settings> Account Management> Privacy Settings and locate the email settings. Change the option be just friends or anyone at all. This way, you can not receive the unauthorized message (unless you have terrible friends). The most likely cause is a character or a set of characters that the Sony messaging system can not handle or acts to render the console unusable.
I suspect that before the end of the day, Sony will have confirmed the existence of the problem and a fix is in progress. I hope the fix will also appear before the end of the day, but I will not hold my breath.
