For as many media streaming devices as on the market, few of them can deliver 4K content at an affordable price. At least that was the case before today, as Roku unveiled a new set of media players that broadcast in 4K from $ 39.99. It's cheaper than any other 4K streamer you'll find at Google, Apple or Amazon.
First of all, we have the Roku Premiere, which can play HD, 4K and HDR content. It comes with a high-speed HDMI cable, AC adapter and two AAA batteries, supports 802.11 WiFi (b / g / n) and features DTS Digital Surround and Dolby Pass Through via HDMI. The design of the Roku Premiere is almost identical to that of the Roku Express, but offers significantly higher resolutions for only $ 10 more than the Express format.
Roku also presented a Roku Premiere +, which will be an exclusive Walmart and includes a voice remote control with volume and power TV buttons. In addition to the two new devices, Roku is also updating its high-end Roku Ultra player. The device itself is the same – HD streaming, 4K and HDR, dual band 802.11ac MIMO wireless, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, remote voice mode and night mode – but the kit will also include a pair JBL headphones, valued at $ 39.95. The new Roku Ultra will still cost $ 99.99, and Roku says it should also begin shipping on October 7th.
Finally, Roku also deploys Roku OS 9 for its streaming devices and Roku OS 8.2 for Roku TVs. New features include automatic volume leveling, voice clarity and free voice search, as well as support for Spotify, Pandora Premium and iHeartRadio. The Google Assistant support also arrives. Roku OS 8.2 is being rolled out on Roku TVs, while Roku OS 9 hits streaming players in early November and TVs early 2019.
