Microsoft is hosting a Surface hardware event on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in New York and a new leak reveals that the company will announce a Surface 2 and Surface Pro 6 laptop. We expected Microsoft to update both devices during the event . , but we also assumed that the new hardware would have modern USB-C ports. Germany site WinFuture claims that neither Surface Laptop 2 nor Surface Pro 6 will have USB-C ports.
Instead, Microsoft would rely on its trusted combo mini DisplayPort and Surface Connector to connect to screens and load the device. If the report is genuine, it would be there a surprising move from Microsoft, which would also match the alleged leaked photos of the Surface 2 laptop. The software manufacturer introduced USB-C on the Surface Book 2 and Surface Go devices not refreshing its flagship Surface Pro and Surface Laptop product with the same connector seems to be a strange choice.
WinFuture Also says that the base model of the new Surface Laptop 2 will feature 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core i5 processor and 128GB of SSD storage. This is good news since the previous basic model saw the Laptop Surface delivered with only 4 GB of RAM. However, the Surface Pro 6 would come with a basic model consisting of 4 GB of RAM and an Intel Core m3 processor.
Microsoft should ship both new devices in a black color variant, which WinFuture said will only be available on more expensive models. The edge will be live from Microsoft's hardware event on Tuesday, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
