If you follow one of the CAR You may have already seen the Subaru WRX STi Diamond Edition take part in Performance Shootout 2019. And now, the local branch of the Japanese manufacturer has revealed official details regarding this special edition model.

Designed to celebrate thirty years of the STi, the Diamond Edition was developed locally by Subaru Southern Africa's technical team, with only 30 copies to be won (at the price of R799,000 each, or a little more than R28 900 than the model on which it is based). Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2019.

Subaru SA stated that it had taken 18 months to develop the car, with a process including "substantial tests of durability and wear, oil testing and dynamic tuning".

This results in an increase in power (thanks to the remapping of the shield and the installation of a performance exhaust) for the turbocharged boxer engine of 2.5 liters, which produces in this case 260 kW (against 221 kW) at 4,500 r / h. 464 Nm (instead of 407 Nm) at 4,000 rpm. That makes the WRX STi the most powerful ever offered by Subaru in South Africa.

The maximum speed remains at 255 km / h, but Subaru says that, according to its tests, the dash from zero to 100 km / h has been reduced to 5.03 seconds (seven tenths less than the standard model "under the same conditions ").

The Diamond Edition – which, like the standard model, uses a six-speed manual gearbox – additionally benefits from a Brembo engine splint and brake system that includes six-bowl calipers to the front and two tanks at the back.

The special edition also features spacers on all four wheels, which adds about 20mm in width, while the body kit includes yellow "High Viz" keys (repeated hue on the brake calipers) and the 39, a black badge 30 "Diamond Edition". According to Subaru, the body kit effectively lowers the car – which uses 19-inch Y-type alloys wrapped in 245/35 R19 rubber – 10 mm in the front.

Inside, you'll find a numbered plate as well as a seven-speaker Harman Kardon audio system paired with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto .

Subaru SA indicates that each of the 30 examples will be delivered to its owner with a "special owner certificate certifying the validity of the limited edition vehicle". Do not miss the January 2019 issue of CAR magazine (plus a video or two before that) to see what we thought about the Diamond Edition …
