If you are looking for Windows 2 in 1 premium, the Surface Pro 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 could please you.

Each of these devices share a similar form factor and design, but whether it's LTE connectivity or the price difference, it has drawbacks and benefits. In this comparison, we combine the two to help you choose the one that suits you best.

Design

The Surface Pro 6 and Galaxy Book 2 share some design elements, such as the crutch, weight and dimensions. Both feel premium, but Surface Pro 6 is magnesium, while the Galaxy Book 2 is aluminum. The difference in materials creates subtle differences in appearance. The magnesium found on the Surface Pro 6 allows for more matte and rough edges, while the aluminum of the Galaxy Book 2 offers shiny edges that make the camera look radiant. The crutch is also the same between the two, strong enough to make typing comfortable.

When it comes to screens, it's hard to beat Samsung's Super AMOLED panel. The Surface Pro 6 incorporates a 12.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2736 x 1,824 and a resolution of 267 pixels per inch. On the Galaxy Book 2, the display is smaller (12 inches), but with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 or 216 pixels per inch. Samsung can hold fewer pixels per inch, but the Super AMOLED panel creates vivid, bright images. We will not know for sure until we have properly tested the display, but it is two panels of very high quality.

Just like the display, keyboards also make the difference between the models. The keyboard of the Surface Pro 6 is great, without cramps when typing. However, it is not included in the price of $ 900. With the Galaxy Book 2, the keyboard and stylus are included in the $ 1,000 price, allowing you to get the most out of Windows 10 without any additional purchases. We found that the typing experience on the Galaxy Book 2 keyboard was comparable to that of the Surface Pro 6, providing ample room for maneuvering during rapid typing.

Performance

The big problem between Surface Pro 6 and Galaxy Book 2 is processors, configurations, and connectivity. The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 starts at $ 1,000 and displays 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor. On the other hand, the Surface Pro 6 comes with options for a processor Intel Core i5 fourth generation and Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB or 16GB RAM or 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. Surface Surface 6 to $ 900 comes with the Core i5-8250U processor, that we deemed sufficient to run more intense software.

For the Surface Pro 6, you have a much more powerful processor, for tasks such as photo and video editing. In contrast, The Galaxy Book 2's Qualcomm processor has less power. Although the device has not been evaluated yet, we would not be surprised to find it as powerful as the Core i5. Not to mention that the Galaxy Book 2 comes with Windows 10 Home in S mode, so you will be limited initially to Windows Store applications. The transition to standard Windows 10 is free, but many Qualcomm drivers are proprietary, so there may be performance issues.

However, what the Galaxy Book 2 might lack performance, it stands out in terms of connectivity. The Snapdragon 850 provides the LTE device, which means it is always connected to the Internet. In addition to that, it also has two USB-C ports, which is missing in the Surface Pro 6.

Portability

The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 has a thickness of 0.30 inches and a weight of 1.75 pounds. It's pretty much the same as the Surface Pro 6 that comes in at 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.33 inches and 1.70 pounds. The weight is quite common on these devices, as is the thickness. Neither one nor the other is as light as an iPad Pro, but they are still comfortable to hold as a tablet and easy to throw in a bag and travel.

We will also warn about battery life here because the differences are important. In our tests with Surface Pro 6, we covered approximately 9.5 hours of web browsing and 14 hours of video viewing. Samsung claims a significant autonomy of 20 hours for the Galaxy Book 2, but it has not been tested yet. On our first contact with the aircraft, we received a 67% loaded unit, which lasted an hour and a half of web browsing. The Qualcomm processor on board is similar to what is found in phones. It should therefore offer a longer standby time and a longer battery when you are on the road.

There is still much to learn about the Galaxy Book 2. We have not yet tested important parameters such as battery life, processor performance and display quality. But for now, it's not hard to see where the device is ahead of the Avant Surface Pro 6. The integrated LTE connection and the accessories provided make it a more versatile device when it's out of the box.

However, the Surface Pro 6 offers more powerful specifications for not too much money. For those looking for a replacement laptop, it's the most capable PC.
